On World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, we are highlighting a growing phenomenon: the trafficking of people into scam centres. Traffickers often exploit vulnerabilities like poverty, displacement, or a lack of safe work opportunities to recruit and trap people in scam centres.

25 March marks the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade. The Transatlantic Slave Trade involved the kidnapping and transportation of millions of African children, women, and men across the Atlantic Ocean, where they were sold into slavery.

Modern slavery is closer than you think. According to Walk Free's Global Slavery Index, an estimated 122,000 people are in exploitation in the UK. This number includes human trafficking. That’s nearly 2 in every 1,000 people in the country being denied their rights.
