anyway if you don’t think it’s bad to have normal folks in a socialist organization, join the “normal folks in a socialist organization” caucus www.socialistmajority.com

i think that elements of ultraliberalism—prioritization of consciousness-raising & moral victories over material victories; a fear of the responsibility intertwined with political power (especially executive power!); and appeals to authenticity/community as policing functions—are present in DSA

“This ultraliberal political tendency keeps the liberal hostility to power and authority, preserves the emphasis of individual moral worth, grants and withholds political personhood and political agency, and maintains its intolerance toward socialist mass organization politics”

Ultraliberalism: The Dominant Tendency of the American Left
Ramsin Canon argues that "ultraliberalism," the political logic of the nonprofit industry, has overtaken socialist organizations.

the (de facto) org wide consensus on electoral questions is party surrogacy which says acting like a “party” (traditional civil society definition) by running and winning within the Democratic “Party” (26 US Code § 527 tax status) builds the power requisite for either realignment or a “break”

if you’re someone who pays enough attention to roll your eyes, it’s probably worth running for convention delegate (depending on your chapter’s size) bc there’s a not-insignificant amount of delegates who don’t even know those terms you referenced

i think that’s fair but in this case, the article opens with a bunch of existing quotes about megan’s performance so really all this one adds is the internal reaction (and the sense that there’s functionally a gag rule on criticism)

kevin, this may sound like a crazy suggestion but have you ever considered recording voice readings of these? i often don’t have the time to sit down and read but i’d rather not just throw on an inaccurate text to speech app either (especially during fec issues)

she will not be replaced, not bc she has a uniquely strong constituency (only 39% compared to 37% for Ashik) but because her supporters have closed ranks around an insular echo chamber of sycophancy where whenever she’s criticized by the media—no matter how sympathetic—it’s treated as a virtue

deeply ridiculous that the ultraliberal factions are closing their eyes and ears to pretend that these interviews haven’t been disasters and that there isn’t widespread dissatisfaction within the org. but those factions encourage parasocial relationships with their leaders and disallow criticism
"She got by far the most votes during the co-chair elections last year," Sterne said.
"There is a lot of support for her. Even if people feel she's not the strongest spokesperson, I think people are generally happy with her overall leadership of the organization." Sidney Carlson White, an NPC member representing the left-wing Marxist Unity Group, confirmed as much. "There's been no outcry from any of the caucuses," he said, adding that he thought the interview was "generally viewed positively by membership."

In Jared Moskowitz’s word cloud, the word DeSantis appears frequently due to Moskowitz’s previous identification as a “DeSantis Democrat”. The words Israel and AIPAC appear frequently due to Moskowitz’s self-identification as strongly pro-Israel.

In Oliver Larkin’s word cloud, the words pedophile, Trump, and Fox appear frequently due to a recent appearance on Fox News in which he said “We need to hold this pedophile Donald Trump accountable.” Clips of this appearance have spread widely on social media in the past week.

AIPAC support has become a deep vulnerability in districts around the country and FL-25 is no different. 43% of FL-25 Dems are less likely to support an AIPAC-backed candidate, only 15% are more likely to, while another 42% either feel neutral or aren’t sure how they feel.

But when separating responses between those who have already voted and those still waiting to vote, a significant divergence appears. With a 10% lead among not-yet-voters, Oliver Larkin’s path to victory relies on mobilizing his later-voting base to the greatest extent possible.
