Perpetual Motion Machine is such a key phrase in retrospect. Part 1 wow so cool and edgy. The pain makes you stronger. Part 2 it is sad and pathetic. Disgusting and tangentially related to the real solution. Was it ever good for him? Things will only change when the machine stops going in circles.

idk how to properly explain this but a disheartening trend I’ve seen in fandom- in discussions of stories in general- is an increasingly strong aversion to considering subtext (or other directly unspoken meanings) in a work as an intended part of the story being told

sometimes, you come up with a plot. and sometimes, the characters start writing themselves and refuse to follow along with the idea you came up with. handle them gently and they will often take you on a better path you'd originally envisioned
