Modern Words in Historical Newspapers, Pt. 7: In 1906, Chicago woman Concetta Rizz set herself on fire while chanting to the god of the sun. The neighbors rushed over and covered her with blankets to put the fire out, but she succumbed to the flames.

Modern Words in Historical Newspapers, Pt. 6: In 1909, a newspaper deemed a test given to Brown University students to be measuring only their "artificial intelligence," because it asked them to identify trivial facts like the full names of public figures.

Modern Words in Historical Newspapers, Pt. 5: On a 1939 trip to Beaumont, TX, Dale Carnegie is described as an "influencer" and a "GreetFriend-Maker," which could 100% be the name of a dating app today. (Note: I have blurred a word that was unfortunately used routinely in 1939.)

Culinary update: "Wagyu Beef Jerky" is a marketing oxymoron. The thing that makes wagyu beef delicious is all the fat in it, while the thing that makes beef jerky great is the LACK of fat in it. "Wagyu" and "beef jerky" are sworn enemies, like Spider-Man and Doc Oc.
