Wow... I agree and I like the result, but I hope they have a more definitive angle that shows it over the line.

Anthony Chu @anthonychu.ca · 21/04/2026

Yeah definitely on the initial entry before the penalty, Staal didn’t have control when he backed into the zone. And lots of people seem upset that they still assessed the penalty after the offside but I think this is the rule that they didn’t explain.

$38.7 Results of a Successful Coach’s Challenge – In cases where a Challenge has been initiated for an “Off-Side Play Leading to a Goal” or a “Missed Game Stoppage Event in the Offensive Zone Leading to a Goal” (either by a team or by the NHL Situation Room), and a determination is made that the GOAL call on the ice should be overturned, the goal will be disallowed and the clock will be re-set to the time at which the play should have been stopped for the missed infraction. In such cases, a face-off will ensue in the ice location where it would have otherwise occurred had the on-ice infraction been called properly. If one or more penalties (minor or major) are assessed between the time of the missed infraction and the video review that disallows the apparent goal, the offending team(s) (and responsible Player(s)) will still be required to serve the penalty(ies) identified and assessed, and the time of the penalty(ies) will be recorded as the time at which the play should have been stopped for the missed infraction. In cases where a Challenge has been initiated for a “GOAL” call on the ice where the defending team claims that the goal should have been disallowed due to the “Interference on the Goalkeeper,” as described in Rules 69.1, 69.3 and 69.4, and a determination is made that the call on the ice should be overturned, the goal will be disallowed and a face-off will ensue in the nearest neutral zone face- off spot outside the attacking zone. The video review process on these plays (whether initiated by way of a Coach’s Challenge or by the NHL Situation Room in the final minute of play or in Overtime) will be utilized exclusively for purposes of overturning a “GOAL” call on the ice - it will not be utilized for any other purpose, including, specifically, for assessing minor or major penalties for Goalkeeper Interference.$

Disappointed the announcers didn’t explain everything (and were wrong about who’s offside). I think Staal was the one offside because he went in backwards and was deemed not in control of the puck. They didn’t really explain the nhl rules about what happens to penalties after successful challenge.

Might be reading too much into this small(?) detail… but why is the PWHL game using the crummy warmup nets while the NHL game in the same arena a few hours earlier used the shiny white game nets?

Taxes are good! Taxes are how we pay for all of the things that make society a good place to live! People who don't like taxes are selfish and stupid and make our entire society worse for their own short term, often barely noticeable gain.

I saw this article about a new Mac featured called "Edge Light" that literally puts a fake white ring light around your screen. It's kinda insane and genius. So I vibed it for Windows. github.com/shanselman/W... get it from Releases, unzip and run the single .NET 10 exe. Will autoupdate also.

Thanks! We’re working making it easier to run web apps like ASP.NET Core as custom handlers. If you’re interested, would love for you to try and give feedback.

The downside could be that the functions host sits in front of it so there’s an extra hop, but it’s using YARP so it fairly lightweight.

010

Anthony Chu @anthonychu.ca · 12/11/2025

It can be cheaper in functions, since you only pay when there’s a request. With Container Apps, you are paying when a replica is running, and App Service you’re paying for the instance but you can share the instance with other apps.
