the reason why it's a KGBS some places and a DTEST others is that not every DTEST is for a Group B Strep. But the internal test code for a D test on a GBS is "KGBS" because it gets ordered under the line for Kirby-Bauer tests, which you should also just know a D test is a type of KB test

and I can kind of see how that would be, for a layperson. And I really try not to be a chauvinist about these things. But the fact is, if you had come through a specialized MLS program it would be extremely basic information that you would already know what that test is and that they're synonyms

the thing is. sometimes one of the new hires who did not go through the traditional MLS educational route will complain to me about something like the fact that the same test is referred to as a "KGBS" in one part of the interface and a "DTEST" elsewhere, and that that's Unnecessarily Confusing
