🚨 MUTUAL AID REQUEST 🚨 A good friend on the West Coast has been going through some health issues and needs rent assistance this upcoming month. If you can spare a few bucks, it would help out a whole lot. (I personally vouch for this fundraiser and would really appreciate a boost.)

The neo-Nazi in the mask and shades next to Ryan Sanchez is named Cristobal Burke, Fresno State class of '23. Burke was part of the very right-wing nationalist Fresno State College Republicans. Cris Burke says he wants to be a clinical psychologist. Welcome to the sunlight, you nazi dweeb.

Amazon and Facebook may not see large scale defections immediately but having HUGE portions of your users hate your company is not a great long term strategy. Alternatives will emerge.

This one seems kind of timely.
A scene from the Disney animated film the Jungle Book depicting a line of elephants stepping backwards leaving one hapless elephant standing there looking like he has volunteered for a mission.

Question for Bluesky employees: what happens to your Bluesky DMs when both sides delete the DMs? How long does your DM data stay around, in the average case (assuming no litigation holds, court orders, or National Security Letters)? And where is Bluesky's warrant canary?

Will the combination of business leaders being afraid of their customers AND politicians being afraid of their own voting base be enough to create systemic change?

As we witness billionaire oligarchs seizing power and the wealthiest proposed administration in history being formed, perhaps more conservatives will realize that the culture and race wars they have embraced were a stalking horse for something more sinister.

Perhaps, the cracks in the conservative facade will spread. A whole host of policies from ‘trickle down economics’ to bankruptcy reform have persistently screwed the bulk of their own constituents and maybe that realisation is growing.

But with the sorts of salaries they collect, danger is not likely much of a disincentive. Think of firefighters...people put their lives on the line everyday for far less money. The risk/reward ratio at play here is so out of whack with normal lives that is hard to even comprehend.

Anonymous Comrade @anonymouscomrade.bsky.social · 11/12/2024
It is hard to say if anything good will come of this. Instead of pledging reform, business leaders have responded by removing their profiles from company websites and hiring more security. This does mean they are afraid, which is objectively good.

These guys make more in one year than most people will make in multiple lifetimes, with bonuses based on how much they squeeze and deny their own customers.

If you take the median annual salary and multiply it by ten years, then twenty, then fifty, then one hundred…it reinforces the scale.

While this incident is no doubt a tragedy for those who knew and loved the dead, the follow-up doesn’t include desperate pleas for money to pay for his ambulance ride, hospital bills, funeral, or the ongoing support of his family.

The killing has put a magnifying glass on inequalities of power and money. Anecdotal stories about the horrific injustices of the insurance industry show this is not solely a leftist issue.

That being said, the murder of a healthcare CEO still feels like a revolutionary act due to the conversations it has provoked. The discourse over the ethics of murder is being matched with a surprising level of mainstream analysis of the reasoning behind said murder.

This is a dystopian theoretical counterweight to the widespread support for this week’s dashing young assassin. Even among the celebrants, few seriously think targeted murder is a workable or desirable longterm solution.

Murder committed to prove a point is a complex moral dilemma, no doubt skewed by both the identities and ideologies of both perpetrator and victim(s.) Timothy McVeigh, Anders Breivik and Dylann Roof all felt their actions justified, and their crimes were celebrated by many.

Nashville! Are you looking for handmade jewelry? I recommend any shop other than Norwood’s of Nashville, which is owned by neo-Nazi Cecil E. Norwood. (Note: this is not the same shop as Norwood Jewelers in Ashland City, which as far as we know has no connection with Cecil.) 1/10
