#StopKillingGames is proud to announce that we are working with Senator John Kane of the Pennsylvania State Senate, on the Protect Our Games (POG) Act in Pennsylvania

Protect Our Games Act memo announcement by John Kane of the Pennsylvania State Senate, describing: video game manufacturers would be required to give customers at least 60 days' notice before ending access to the game or changing its features.

Additionally, the companies would also be required to provide customers with at least one of the following options:

The ability to use the video game offline
A patch to continue using the game online independent of the company's online gaming services
A refund in an amount equal to the highest price of the digital game offered by the digital game operator within the 12 months before the digital game operator ceases providing services for the ordinary use of the digital game. The refund amount cannot fall below 25% of the initial sale price of the game
Additionally, the bill would include exemptions for subscription-based services where access to games lasts only for the duration of the subscription.

If enacted, the bill would be enforced by the Pennsylvania Attorney General and the district attorneys.

I feel like people have forgotten that ad blockers weren't popular because people just wanted to get something for free, it's because we can't trust ads not to fuck up our computers. If we still just had quiet simple banner ads or sideboard ads, ad blockers wouldn't have gotten as much traction.

Just heard the news that it seems like almost 1/2 of id Software was axed by Microsoft. One of them being principal concept artist Colin Geller. (1)

A Linkedin post from Colin Geller that says the following: "After over 12.5 years, one complete game trilogy and 1 day short of the 9th DOOM related project (and 12th project at this studio) I've worked on, myself and many pthers were informed our roles at id Software were terminated as part of larger organizational changes this morning
I had been very fortunate to have joined the studio at a point in time that felt like being there on the ground floor of something special for the studio. That feeling continued through today, just short of completing the story of trilogy. One of the truly special things about the studio was the sheer amount of skill amongst the team and the exciting and intense collaboration which is what made our games special and successful.
With these changes many of my amazing colleagues are taking their institutiona knowledge and skillsets into the wider industry
1 am looking and open to what could be next in the immediate future; now it is time to put my money where my mouth is and stay focused on improving myseif and what lcan do to help those around me who were also impacted.
