After 2 years of builders and architects in our lives (and house), we are done. Last bit of flooring went in today (so we have one last night back in the guest room). Some artsy fartsy photos of the stairs.

The cucumbers will not stop. Tomatoes are loving the cooler weather (my San Marzano’s are FINALLY starting to turn red). Second crop of flat beans has started. Having to give excess to my neighbours. Amazing what you can grow in pots!!

We can see the fires burning in Blaenavon from our house near Monmouth. The lower and mid level clouds are not clouds. It’s smoke. Can smell it now as well.

All her favourite people came for a visit and belly rubs and goodbye. At 3.30 supported by a wonderful vet, we said goodnight at home. We’re in bits. She was the bestest girl. She was tiny but leaves a universe-sized hole in our lives.

Explored the back garden. Waited patiently at the front for us. Wandered the drive. Took a dump 🙄 And headed straight to our neighbours where she just wandered into their house and sat down demanding tummy rubs. She’s now ensconced on my lap.

Finished this a while ago. It’s taken me months to read my second book of the year. Safe to say the reading is not going well atm But number 2 done. Kay Chronister’s “The Bog Wife”. Not entirely what I expected (not as dark/gothic) but it was good.

New from old. Last year was an absolute bumper year for oaks/acorns. This new oak is from a 500 year old oak very nearly our house. It’s a very special tree. And I have the next generation.

A 500 year old ancient oak tree in full leaf.

It had an immensely wide trunk, gnarled with age, split in two. The tree is squat with a huge green crown of leaves.

A miniature wire haired dachshund is stood in front of the tree for scale.

A green glass vase sits on a wooden windowsill. In the throat of the vase sits an acorn, split in two. Above the water a tiny stem emerged with four small reddish green leaves unfurling. The leaves look like classic oak leaves but in miniature
