Sure. But that’s not happening at the middle and high school levels, usually. And AI falls squarely in the “applied” category, particularly right now. Any AI-oriented curriculum will be out of date in six months. I’d be ok with history of ML and basic concepts underlying AI.

AI companies are in desperate straits, in terms of the amount of money they’ve accepted from investors. They need AI to function like a privately owned universal utility. And that’s why AI is being pushed into schools so aggressively.

I agree! I use AI! It’s extremely easy to use, which is most of my point. I know a lot about ML! But I also want kids to learn how to write, and to research, and to validate claims made by a chatbot. AI is not a knowledge source, it’s an excellent and comprehensive averaging machine.

The analogy isn’t “learning a programming language,” but “learning boolean search,” or “learning to use a calculator.” Neither thing requires study. It’s being injected into schools as a sop to corporate interests, and as an attack on education.

Counter argument is that AI in schools is entirely unnecessary at best, and replaces learning how to write and reason and research and think critically at worst.

I think the key takeaway is that the community affected by a project needs to be listened to earlier in the decision process. I’m not shaking my finger at anyone, it’s just such a major fumble by Wu and friends (and I’m a supporter, generally).

One of the things I get wound up about, as a designer, is choosing the right medium for the job. Slides are not and have never been the correct medium for lots of text. If the expectation is that a slide deck will be a leave-behind doc, vs an artifact used for a talk, then make it a Google doc.

Anne Hjortshøj @annesaurus.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
It’s also how slides -should be done-. It’s a best practice.

Obviously frats should be dissolved, everywhere. Social clubs that commit crimes while holding their members hostage—with the threat of loss of housing and social networks—have no place on a college campus. They’re effectively gangs.

Anyway, it sure would be nice if colleges and universities were held accountable for breaking laws and their own policies. And it’s really not great that elite educational institutions program their graduates to accept and perpetuate abuse.

I would genuinely like to see a research study on this phenomenon of forgetting. It’s likely connected to the Just-World Fallacy; for women, this kind of data goes into a vast and detailed mental just-in-case file, while men can safely read and forget. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just-wo...

A friend opined that it's because it's unpleasant and disturbing information that doesn't affect them directly, so they just delete it. Which explains why we keep experiencing the same dumb waves of "oh, that happens?" every few years. Anyway, women shouldn't have to keep educating them, the end.

There is a phenomenon where women tell men about [bad stuff] that happened to them at an institution or workplace or whatever that they are mutually part of, and the men express their extreme sympathy and ask what they can do. And then, with time, good and well-intentioned men...forget all about it?

Bowdoin College quietly banned frats a few years ago. The frat buildings, which are old and historic, were mostly owned by the college, which eased the process. The remaining frat-owned one was dismantled because the frat had irrevocably abused it. Anyway, they go unmourned. It‘s an option!

Stories like this have, for ages, treated men's desire to harm women as a sort of background noise, a weather we just normalize and accept and try to work around. Feminism is among other things a process of denormalization.

My design professional cynicism may be showing, but my belief is that the mockup was mostly marketing. At that point, any feedback taken would be for elements that could be remanufactured separately (e.g. seat height), at most.
