Back in July I got to visit the astounding collection of the Naples Archeology Museum. I don't normally include cornucopia (as would be over run) but rather liked this one -

Always a sucker for these postal symbol #HiddenHorns - this one was spotted when I was briefly in Ljubljana, Slovenia in the summer.

Spotted this #HiddenHorn whilst here in Sydney for the Australian Chamber Orchestra Mozart Last Symphonies tour. (Thanks to Louis-Pierre Bergeron who tipped me off about this one last time we were all here!)

Not a horn! But curious as to what's going on here on the side of the Liszt Academy in Budapest!!

A collection of nice photos from the recent Springhead Constellation tour of Brahms Schicksalslied and Mendelssohn Lobgesang. Fabulous working with such a great horn section!  Thanks to Peter Moutousis, David Fliri and Jörg Schutless for their splendind playing (and great conversations!)

Great start to our new term at Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag. Delighted to reconnect with continuing students and welcome many new faces to our historic horn class here in Holland!

Always a pleasure to have the excuse to play this lovely instrument. Very much enjoyed two of my favourite Bach Cantata (BWV 8 and 95) with Bach Winchester Voices (also known aptly as BWV!) yesterday

Spotted by me on the front page of the London Metro newspaper - this #HiddenHornPlayer ("Herne the Hunter") is part of an advertising campaign by Great Western Railway!

A good #HiddenHorn spot by my friend and colleague Koen Plaetinck. I love how horns are often cleverly used in these ways!

Wonderful Jennifer Montone was in Stockholm recently playing with the Swedish Radio Symphony and whilst there came across what she (very accurately in my opinion!) described as "fun quasi-horn statues". Aren't they great!

Isn't this striking and eye catching? This was a very generous gift from a talented young horn player - Kandil K. Mohamed - who I met recently. One of the details I love about this is the beautiful background which he explained was painted using tea!

Enjoying my morning coffee in a favourite mug which was given to me by my friend Howard Sanner. I know very little about its origins but I find it very pleasing!

Well... this is very curious! Spotted in the magazine of the village Oggebbio at Lake Maggiore by my colleague at Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag, Alexandra Nepomnyashchaya... We'll have to find the original somehow!

I'm really happy to see the publication of "The Sound of Brass", the proceedings of the 2018 Fifth International Romantic Brass Symposium. This was a particularly thought provoking event to be involved in and I found my research for my contribution went in some particularly unforeseen directions!

The opening of Weber's Oberon is very well known to horn players but there's plenty of other exposed sections for us in this magical work - here's the denouement from Act III when Huon sounds the horn, enchanting his enemies into dance. Here's this bit in rehearsal last week.

Here's a peak behind the scenes - our rehearsal last Thursday morning before the performance of Weber's Oberon at the BBC Proms. Thanks to Jakob Lehmann who shared the footage with me. Monteverdi Choir & Orchestras

A whole section of magic horn players! So delighted to spend the last few days playing Weber's opera Oberon with this lovely section. Huge thanks to Martin Lawrence, Peter Moutoussis, Gijs Laceulle and Sarah Brien for some enchanting playing!

Oh if ONLY is was that simple on the "real" horn!  This really made me smile! A horn kazoo sent to me by my Teatro Nuovo buddy, clarinetist Elise Bonhivert. Love it!

These are spectacular! Spotted by my colleague (and epic horn player) Steve Stirling whilst performing Cosi fan tutte at Opera Holland Park in London. This sculpture by Andrew Burton is entitled Annunciation. #HiddenHorn

Just returned from the final instalment of Les Boréades with A Nocte Temporis. Such a wondrous piece and a joy to perform (the horn parts encompassing brilliant exuberance, boisterous dances and tender yearning)- especially with such a great bunch of musicians.

One of the great things about giving masterclasses is the privilege of meeting so many talented and committed young musicians. I had the pleasure of meeting Nick Culver last month as part of my classes at Eastmann -

I am totally in awe of Gabriella Ibarra - she has so many talents! Not only is she a top notch horn player, she's also a high level researcher, teacher, editor and ... has a whole other enterprise making jewellery.

Huge thanks to the talented Philippe Genestier who got these wonderful shots of the Pygmalion horn section at our final concert in Ravello - what a magnificent setting!

Found it! The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley horn studio were also at the recent International Horn Society Symposium in Kraków. They spotted this #HiddenHorn and challenged me to find it - I only saw it on my way to the airport so it was a lucky spot!

Ensemble Pygmalion are on to the next thing already (Brahms, Schubert and Wagner in Montpellier tonight...) but a moment to reflect on the recent Mozart Requiem project

The International Horn Society symposiums are always a highlight of my year - and being one of the featured artists at this IHS58 in Kraków last week was an absolute joy.

We've reached the end of a busy year for the natural horn class at Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag / Royal Conservatoire The Hague - to celebrate the class took a little trip to a local restaurant, the aptly named Bodega De Posthoorn!

What do a bunch of Pygmalion musicians do on a day off? In a heat wave? Why... get together to spend the afternoon playing chamber music! Huge thanks to my lovely colleagues for joining me in rehearsing repertoire in preparation for a concert I have next week! Love this music!

The International Horn Society big shindig in Kraków is just around the corner - I'm excited to be participating as one of the Featured Artists - IHS asked me what I was going to be performing and what I was looking forward to....

How about this for the ULTIMATE in #HiddenHorns? The most wonderful end of term gift from my lovely (and multi-talented!) student Janire De Paz Rivas. Full of word searches, tongue twisters, mazes, crosswords and quizzes - all horn related.

A bit of a flash back combined with a "new" release! Back in 2021 I recoded Mozart's Concert in E flat KV 495 with the Orchestre des Pays de Savoie conducted by Pieter-Jelle de Boer. A little unusually for me, at least for this particular piece, it was on modern horn!

Seeing #HiddenHorns EVERYWHERE - this hint of a horn was spotted by fellow horn player Ellie Jenkins who picked it out in the “tree of life” sculptural wall at First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego

This was a bit of a find yesterday in Cologne. I happened to walk past these huge metal gates - the doors to the Gürzenich, the historic festival hall in the city. #HiddenHorn

This is smashing!  Another image from Versailles reflecting the tradition of hunting that was popular there. But a bit of a different one! This was spotted in the hotel room of my colleague, & fellow participant in the recent a nocte temporis tour, Tomas Kral at the Hotel D'angleterre, Versailles .

Another favourite! There's a few of these dotted about Versailles - a conch shell playing #HiddenHornPlayer triton (one of Neptune's servants!)
