Anne Hand on Reclaiming Heritage & Hidden Family History | Austrian Again on Road Gang Radio
On this edition of Road Gang Radio, host Jimmy Mac welcomes Anne Hand, author of the powerful new memoir Austrian Again, published by Amsterdam Publishers. Anne shares her deeply personal journey that began in 2020 when she read a headline in The Guardian: “Austria offers citizenship to the descendants of Jews who fled the Nazis.” What followed was an emotional and revelatory process of rediscovering her family’s Holocaust history and reconnecting with her Austrian roots. In Austrian Again, Anne reflects on memory, identity, and belonging—navigating questions of heritage, generational trauma, and what it means to reclaim a lost past in today’s complex world.
