Agree completely. I'm sticking to books & trusted podacsts (of which, there are few... Top of the tree for me always are @tinyklaus.com and @libertybirb.bsky.social with 'Patterns Tell Stories', which has kind of transcended being a podcast. It's become a vital source of investigative journalism.

I'd say I'm 'educated', but I still believe if anyone touches any of my 'special items', they lose what made them special, and are dead to me 😅 Educated does not mean rational, or right!

I also don't know if it's a cultural thing in America, where the line between reality and fiction (think of all those scripted reality TV shows) is somewhat blurred now.

Agree.. I noticed this too. Specifically 3 Body Problem a few times, then Stranger Things, and more recently Predator. I don't know if it's an attempt to appeal to casual armchair sci-fi fans to get on board this topic (more book sales, more documentaries, more money!), or...

Example - let's say the town of Dunkeld. That's the anglicised phonetic spelling for 'Dùn Chailleann' (Translates as Fort of the Caledonians). An important and once powerful place for that Tribe of Picts. It's now a meaningless name if you don't know Gaelic. Stripped of it's memory and power.

The reason colonisers try to eradicate language and culture is so you forget who you are / were. anglicising place names, removes the meaning (as it just becomes a phonetic jumble of words), and divorces you from the land and your culture / history.

Yeah, they won't allow it. We've had mad unionist politicians try and revoke our dual Gaelic / english road signs, citing they are a danger, as people may spend too much time trying to read the Gaelic sign to decipher it and crash! (despite the clear english translation on display aside it).

I guess it's the contempt by, and lack of effort made by some quarters to even try - an inherited cultural trait from the colonisers who tried to stamp out the language and culture.
