Perhaps you’ve heard: five European countries have plans in the works to deport migrants to 🇷🇼 and 🇺🇬. I’m very sceptical of these plans. So I travelled there to see for myself and gather as much information possible. Was I too sceptical, or are the worries legit?

I’m fed up with those polarising the migration debate. Emotions instead of facts rule. What have decades of emotion-driven border policies brought us? Migration still happens, smuggler networks thrive, suffering at boarders increases. And the feeling of ‘them’ against ‘us’ reached a record high.

This was not the train I was on this morning, but the one behind it. Russian bombed this at the Ukrainian-Polish border. Thankfully the alarm system works well, people where evacuated in time, and no one got hurt. Russia escalates. Again and again. We should give Ukraine the means to win!

Onder Jetten worden straks de eerste huiszoekingen gedaan om afgewezen asielzoekers op te sporen en op te sluiten in de EU of in kampen buiten de EU. Ook kinderen. D66 zet de deur wagenwijd open voor mensenrechtenschendingen. Ik ben diep teleurgesteld dat D66 is gebogen voor de druk van VVD.

D66 stond jarenlang voor menselijkheid in het asielbeleid. Nu niet meer… D66 veranderde hun positie tijdens een stemming. Ze zijn niet langer tegen de wet die deportaties mogelijk maakt.

In Iran, the Islamic Republic has shut down the internet and is executing those detained during the January protests - a tactic we’ve seen before in 2022. International pressure works, and as European politicians, we were able to protect some of those facing execution then.

Ook ik kan me niet meer uitspreken over de noodzaak voor goede opvang zonder duizenden reacties vol drek over mij heen te krijgen. Te veel tolerantie voor deze kleine groep mensen zorgt voor een intolerante samenleving. Er zijn grenzen, en die zijn nu bereikt.

RTL: “De meeste Nederlanders zijn vóór opvang van asielzoekers én vóór de spreidingswet.” Toch laat een kleine agressieve groep zich het hardst horen - met brand, explosies en geweld. Dat maakt asielzoekers bang en maakt het voor bestuurders en politici moeilijker om hun nek uit te steken.

A clear definition of femicide is not symbolic, but necessary for justice, prevention and accountability. The European Parliament has already called on Member States to formally recognise femicide as a gender-based crime. Now it’s up to the Dutch government to take the next step!
