Trading migrants for money is not the partnership the EU should be building with Africa. My recent trip to Uganda and Rwanda has shown me that these countries are suffering from Trump's US Aid cuts. What we should focus on are partnerships between equals, not dodgy migrant deals.

Perhaps you’ve heard: five European countries have plans in the works to deport migrants to 🇷🇼 and 🇺🇬. I’m very sceptical of these plans. So I travelled there to see for myself and gather as much information possible. Was I too sceptical, or are the worries legit?

Women with children earn less, men with children earn more. This ‘motherhood penalty’ is one of the key reasons the gender pay gap still exists. I worked with cross-party European colleagues on a report full of concrete recommendations to close the gap. Today, it got adopted today with a majority.

My report got adopted, a big win for sustainable farming in Europe! The European Parliament voted with a 90,8% majority to accelerate the approval and uptake of biocontrols. More biodiversity in the countryside, less harmful chemicals in our food and water! This could be the future!

Today the EU parliament voted to ban the word burger if they are made with plant protein, instead of animal protein. 🤦🏻‍♀️ They claim it’s to stop consumers being ‘confused between meat and plant products’ - solving a problem that nobody had! This new rule leaves a bad taste in the mouth…

Italy is preparing a new transfer to the Gjäder detention centre in Albania. This time the boat won't bring asylum seekers intercepted in international waters - but rejected asylum seekers transferred from Italy and awaiting repatriation. Sounds exactly like a so called “return hub,” doesn’t it?

Italy is going for it: an illegal return hub in Albania. But people aren’t packages we can just send out of the EU. Even if it would be legal, this should never become the norm.
