@octoberhillmag.bsky.social A short story by Anne McPherson Arthurs in the Spring 2026, vol. 10 issue 1 of October Hill Magazine. My favorite lines: "It was enough to make me wish there was something seriously wrong with me, too." AND "His own personal rain cloud, Mom called it." Great read!!

I could’ve told you that. However, I was going to say I didn’t have scientific proof, but actually there’s a lot of proof before our very eyes.

LOL. Love it when they turn on each other. No one likes either one of them. Two wannabe bullies on the playground.

This is making me extremely sad as well. I have two young granddaughters and I fear the world we’re leaving them. It keeps me awake at night.

Reading Salamander #49 from fall/winter 2019-2020. Takes me a while to catch up. Just finished Christina Leo’s story, “The Blue Bull of Bayou Bonne Chance.” A real touch of Louisiana living.

Oh my, that’s so sweet. However, technically, I think I missed a day when I was particularly busy. I would LOVE “I Hear Voices” and “Story Shapes.” 😀 I nominate Sarah Freligh for her story on the short list. That story, for me, is one of the best I’ve ever read of any length.

A chance meeting is a perfect scenario for a short piece and lovely that the narrator realizes just how happy she is. And a nice closure for that old relationship. My favorite description among the many greats is “fishing-line twitch of prior commitments.” I love the physical jerk. Great story, Amy!

I love stories in which after something no day after is the same. The entire world, I think, has the before 9/11 and after 9/11 calendar in their minds. Like with the latest pandemic. Even Vesuvius in 79. The old dog knows more than the people. Aren’t we always sniffing in the wind wondering? Sarah!

I want “divine peace within their glowing harmony.” And, the word “concertinaed” is a fabulous visual descriptor. I also appreciate the unexpected “uninhabited body.” For me, “a speck in an enormous void” gives me comfort in a backwards way, part of, but not responsible for the whole. Awesome, Jo.
