but what if your choice are: 1. being featured on national tv with a post thirsting for that sheep 2. getting misinterpreted as thirsting for biberty, but not breaking containment?

this of course doesn’t make it in any way _easy_ to reinitiate that contact, but may possibly reduce some of the stress and worry that it’s permanently lost

if it’s any comfort, i would appreciate contact back from a forgotten friend even if they had forgotten or been unsure about how to reply for over ten years, almost regardless of how it would be initiated in other words, the relationship wouldn’t have been destroyed, only paused until next contact

LambdaDuck @anka213.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
hmm, this sounds interesting! how would one do this in practice? ask the ai to leave some part un-implemented? manually abort it at some point so you can implement it yourself? some other tactic?

LambdaDuck @anka213.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
it’s probably more likely that it’s a side product of marketing tactics. which i guess in a way, model eval is a part of. how else can you say “our model did this well on task x”?

LambdaDuck @anka213.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
or you could use static types and think about ways to offload the effort of maintaining invariants of your program to the compiler, so you don’t have to worry about them, because the compiler will complain if you use it wrong A simple example of this is explicit nullability markers in types

3. ”formal verification *techniques*”. you don’t have to formally verify every single line of code in your software to get benefits. for example, you could use a model checker (like TLA+) to verify the high level algorithms for the most difficult (e.g. concurrency heavy) parts of your system

I enjoyed it. there are plenty of worse ways i’ve spent 3 hours. but sure, there are also better ways i’ve spent 3 hours in other words, i’d say that those warnings were severely exaggerated

but don’t you know that unrestricted free trade is the best way to get an efficient* economy with cheaper** prices? *that is to say, one where work can be moved to places with fewer pesky labor laws and environmental protections etc that hurt profits **except where it causes increased prices

1. Owning a bike 2. Fewer traffic lights on the path to work 3. Worse public transport on the path to work (1 isn’t a strict requirement, since we have a quite nice bike sharing system in our city) (we already have a network of protected bike paths covering most of our city)

I also love that in french it’s a homophone to ”chat, j'ai pété”, meaning ”cat, I farted”. especially fun when you hear people talking about it on the news with a serious face: ”will cat i farted take our jobs?”

my interpretation is that it was an attempt at defense in depth. if the others failed, then this might reduce the risk. in this specific case, it’s the only method that could possibly have worked, since it was external agents that hacked into the servers

LambdaDuck @anka213.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
indeed! it’s also experience dependent. someone who is used to c style syntax will find haskell syntax very confusing, but the reverse is also true it’s probably possible to make a study, but it’d be very difficult experimental design. however, an objective measure could be speed of understanding

here the (,) is just the normal tuple construction and not related to functions at all the other thing that reduces parens needed is that -> is right-associative, so the actual type signature is: example :: Int -> (Int -> (Int -> Int)) which shows more clearly that all funs have exactly one arg
010
LambdaDuck @anka213.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
we cheat a bit here with allowing multiple arguments left of the = sign, but all the rest fall out naturally from having all functions be one-argument and using currying. in fact we can even get back parenthesized multi-arg funs using tuples: nonCurry :: (Int, Int) -> Int nonCurry (a, b) = a + b
110
LambdaDuck @anka213.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
if the syntax is well chosen, it actually *reduces* the visual noise here’s a three argument function in haskell, using currying example : Int -> Int -> Int -> Int example a b c = a + b * c we would apply it as `example 1 2 3`
