Nonprofit-owned housing provides affordable homes for thousands of people, including Barbara, a tenant of the Carroll Gardens Association. Without immediate government intervention, there will be devastating impacts on New York communities.

Mercedes, a CASA member, spoke about her living conditions. She didn't have heat, hot water, or a working stove for months. Tenants should not have to settle for undignified housing. We welcome the Mamdani administration's housing plan which aims to take on these challenges directly.

Mercedes, a CASA member, told us about her living situation. All New Yorkers deserve to live in comfort. ANHD is glad to see the Mamdani administration’s housing plan includes strategies to coordinate with tenant groups like CASA, target landlords who are bad actors, & address code violations.

Having reviewed the City's first draft of the Fair Housing Growth Strategy, we are deeply concerned. While we’ve been impressed by many of the housing commitments and strategies laid out thus far by the Mamdani administration, this draft misses the mark. Read more: bit.ly/4duBKBA

Some good news: The City Council passed Intro 839-A, permanently establishing the Certificate of No Harassment (CONH) program, with real improvements to better target bad actors and protect vulnerable tenants. This is a win for every tenant who has ever felt unsafe in their own home.

New reporting from @thecityreporter.nyc details NYC’s plan to replace 9 local IBSPs with one citywide contractor, while cutting roughly $1M in funding. This would be detrimental to local businesses and good, stable industrial jobs. We must preserve the IBSP network. @mayor.nyc.gov @council.nyc.gov

New York City has spent 50 years building affordable housing across every borough. We can't afford to lose it. Affordable housing preservation isn't the alternative to new construction; it's the foundation. You can't keep pouring into the top of the cup if it's leaking from the bottom. 🧵

New York City should build more housing for New Yorkers, but we also need to maintain the nonprofit and subsidized housing we already have. These buildings are reaching a crisis point and need preservation funding to continue serving families and communities.

The New York City Rent Guidelines Board voted to freeze rents on stabilized apartments. Landlords have claimed the freeze would push their buildings further into financial distress, but experts and ANHD’s own analysis find that speculative lending and predatory ownership are often the real culprits.

The weakening of Section 1071 of the Dodd-Frank Act is a step backward for small business fairness. We are deeply disappointed by this regressive action to reduce public visibility into small business lending practices, making less data available for identifying inequities in small business lending.
