raceroster.com/events/2026/... One of my best friends is participating in an ultramarathon this weekend, with the goal of generating donations toward Alzheimer’s research. Good person, good cause, and an impressive demonstration of his commitment to it! Feel free to share!

Finally able to walk around again after almost a week of being bed ridden. First, and hopefully last time getting heatstroke.

Today’s discussion that took place in my seminar class cleared up some major brain fog I’ve had for a while. This is such an amazing feeling. I am usually motivated to write, but not as much as I am at this exact moment…

Yes! The hardest thing to deal with was the nerves. But those left fairly quickly and I got right into the groove after that. I’ve given guest lectures before, but actually “teaching” a class is a much different experience. But, it felt very rewarding! 🥰

I’m feeling a bit out place so far in my MA program. But I’m still excited for the classes to begin, maybe it was just my own awkwardness that made me feel “different.”

Yup. I’ve never understood the “AI Art” competitions either. Art, in my opinion, will always be a distinctly human realm.

Reading a new manga titled “Under Doctor.” Love scenes like this. I cropped some of the pages, to leave out the weird “manga specific” stuff. “I simply couldn’t forgive my own existence. But after meeting various people, I discovered I could choose.” Bars.

“[M]y thoughts, imprisoned in my head, I can no longer let you go strolling in the cool of the evening, but do not be discouraged, learn to know one another better, associate with one another, and I will no doubt be able to slip off occasionally and peek in on you—Au revoir!” - Søren Kierkegaard

Rank continues: “I began to think that it is even more powerful than badness, meanness—because many actions or re-actions that appear many are simply stupid and even calling them bad is a justification.”

Been reading a lot climate change related articles recently. I’ve never experienced a more “black-pilling” event recently. I will still remain optimistic and do as much as I can, as an individual, to reduce my carbon footprint. I come to Bluesky inquiring if there is any “good” news in climate sci

One thing I’ve always enjoyed about the show criminal minds is the quotes they always show at the beginning and the end. My girlfriend and I have been watching the show together, and I’ve been waiting for Kierkegaard to have a quote in an episode. He has so many good ones. We finally got one!

What I especially enjoy is what he says right after: “It does not worry him that his “ideas” are not true, he uses them as trenches for the defence of his existence, as scarecrows to frighten away reality .”

“For life is at the start a chaos in which one is lost. The individual suspects this, but he is frightened at finding himself face to face with this terrible reality, and tries to cover it over with a curtain of fantasy, where everything is clear.” - José Ortega Y Gasset

Furthermore, boiling down his thought to this is, I believe, entirely incorrect and just shows one’s lack of understanding what Freud was “getting at” with his Oedipal project.

I’ve encountered Freud again. It’s sad how little I see him brought up in anything scholarly nowadays. I am also reminded of how his ideas have been horribly misrepresented in undergraduate classes (I have higher hopes for graduate classes!!). He’s a lot more than “wanting to lay with mom.”

A friend passed away today. Be sure to check in on your loved ones. Sometimes you never know when the last time you talk with them will be. He was only 30 years old, and much too kind for this world. I think this quote is from Lao Tzu? “The flame that burns twice as bright burns half as long.”

Very valid! And always good to start with the SE. From his own work I’d recommend Two Ages, Fear and Trembling, or Either/Or. For introductory secondary literature, I’d recommend The Cambridge Companion to Kierkegaard, or Lowrie’s “A short life of Kierkegaard.”
