Anguirus @anguirus.bsky.social · 5hHe legit made the show hard to finish. Him and his dirtbag kid. He assassinated the best recurring character in the show OFF SCREEN 010

And lawyers cost a lot of money and time. Thus, many of you have asked me why people are allowed to file frivolous lawsuits in the first place. But see, it's not that simple. THREAD. 36314
Anguirus @anguirus.bsky.social · 7hThen in BoBW, they just *decide* that the Borg will ignore them, and then the Borg inexplicably *oblige* them! 020
Anguirus @anguirus.bsky.social · 7htbh, that was also a complete pisstake when it was rolled out in BoBW. It's extremely explicit that Riker's party is not bothered in "Q Who" because the Borg are all regenerating, because 1701-D just blasted massive holes in the cube. 110
Anguirus @anguirus.bsky.social · 8hHonestly it was superior work from Kohli, who generally plays the coolest guy in the room. With this character though, I could read that SOMETHING was off about him, something squirrely, but I didn’t guess exactly what till it landed. 010
Anguirus @anguirus.bsky.social · 8hbut you gotta be careful teasing shit that's potentially a more interesting change than the change you actually want to make 😅 010
Anguirus @anguirus.bsky.social · 8hand then as far as stuff that didn't pay off, I was SURE that Carrie's dad molested her and Carrie killed him (consciously or unconsciously, and either could have been super interesting) I guess it was a pump fake for the teacher thing and how some of the confrontations with Margaret played out 210
Anguirus @anguirus.bsky.social · 8hthe teasing in episode 1 was genuinely very good and then when it plays out in 8 it's definitely a bit of a belly flop they spent 7 episodes building up, I was expecting some fucking SCANNERS shit 110
Anguirus @anguirus.bsky.social · 8hthough I think the restrained nature of the death (no gore, just acting) would have *paid off* a lot better if the prom had been a proper bloodbath (but instead, there was no gore, just acting!!) 110
Anguirus @anguirus.bsky.social · 8hthat's one where I'm like, I understand why people were mad about it, but it didn't personally make me mad. this version of her was so much more social, and the bits where she's rallying the parents and going into sketchy internets felt like she was flying too close to the sun. 100
Anguirus @anguirus.bsky.social · 9hThere are too many people like 1976!Margaret and there are too many people like 2026!Margaret 010
Anguirus @anguirus.bsky.social · 9hI think the misplay was the question of what was Carrie’s conscious action and what was the “alter ego” landed in the wrong place. It was the kind of thing George Lucas was really careful to avoid re: Anakin/Vader. But I think the stuff with Margaret was top-tier. She was a great character. 300
Anguirus @anguirus.bsky.social · 9h30th anniversary! Star Trek was king! Maybe the high water mark of its proportional cultural relevance? 020

Anguirus @anguirus.bsky.social · 9h…then I sure hope there’s a compelling framework in mind cause “psychic girls hide from psychic girls” is the kind of premise that risks tilting into boring or generic fast. And going back to high school would be ridiculous. 110
Anguirus @anguirus.bsky.social · 9hIn the end it feels more urban fantasy than horror, which is certainly acceptable on its own terms, but creates friction with its marketing and its target audience. It’s a bit of a paradox—if there’s no season 2, then this adaptation is weakened by a bunch of random shit. If there is… 110
Anguirus @anguirus.bsky.social · 9hThe prom scene was juiceless—too scared to diverge too much, but not following through on its own teases that it was gonna be different. Then the town destruction was cheated out too. It kicks up a notch when she gets back, though. Just a full collision of Howell’s and Sloyan’s takes on the Whites. 110
Anguirus @anguirus.bsky.social · 10hOn the one hand, it’s decent blockbuster filmmaking AND decent Star Trek. It looks great, crackles with energy, makes inspired choices. Otoh, it’s an awkward mashup of ALIENS and BACK TO THE FUTURE that ruins the Borg for future stories. 050

Anguirus @anguirus.bsky.social · 11/10/2026I haven't read the book (though I probably will now) but it doesn't sound like there was enough daylight between it and the other versions to really explore making it CLOSER to the text. And why try to out-do DePalma? Why hit all the same beats? 220
Anguirus @anguirus.bsky.social · 11/10/2026anyway I'm through episode 6 and it's still pretty banging. is it perfect, no, but the high concept of just plopping these kids into 2026 is lifting a lot. "You really don't know how phones work, do you?" 030

Anguirus @anguirus.bsky.social · 11/10/2026There was an action figure too, and I think even a junior book with pictures from the scene. Call that the Biggs Effect. Anguirus @anguirus.bsky.social · 10/10/2026Still haven’t finished “Carrie” (2026) but I’m getting the most wild pushback against it and Flanagan on my feed. I’ll eat crow if I’m wrong and I’m somewhat avoiding specific spoilers but “how dare the fourth adaptation of CARRIE, 50 years later, take a different approach” is not real compelling. 2110
Anguirus @anguirus.bsky.social · 10/10/2026And going back to an earlier thread, we like them because they like each other. Actors can ACT chemistry but there’s something magic when it comes naturally and lets them direct their energy elsewhere (see also “Friends”) 030

Anguirus @anguirus.bsky.social · 10/10/2026I mean, it’s TNG. There’s a baseline level of quality that only bits of S1 and S2 and NEMESIS ever dip below. Just a really fun ensemble to watch at work. 140
