Angie Manfredi @angiemanfredi.bsky.social · 28/05/2026I genuinely was freaking OUT at the thought of having to wear a god dang belt ??!! And I dunno but my GUESS is Judy Blume's goal wasn't to make kids FREAK THE FUCK OUT. 110
Angie Manfredi @angiemanfredi.bsky.social · 28/05/2026I had a beautiful and magical talk with my mother about it okay cool for you what if I told you one point of thrme book existing is that not every kid has a magical and cool and open mother present to have that talk with them and the book is meant to help them with that by making things less opaque? 120
Angie Manfredi @angiemanfredi.bsky.social · 28/05/2026Everyone's sooooo precious over the experience THEY had while reading as if it the only one forever. Perhaps not? 050
Angie Manfredi @angiemanfredi.bsky.social · 28/05/2026Yeah I talked about it with my mom too but first I freaked the fuck out about how I WAS GOING TO HAVE TO WEAR A BELT OMG NO PLEASE NO and the text meant to make me feel less alone made me panic. What if I didn't have a cool mom to talk to? If Judy Blume wants to update her text that's JUST FINE. 2202
Angie Manfredi @angiemanfredi.bsky.social · 28/05/2026Generative AI is intellectual theft. It in inaccurate. It is a drain on our environment and a poison to our neighborhoods. The ONLY place it has in any library is one where trained professionals educate on these things. As a professional org @wearealsc.bsky.social should know this. Do better! 062
Angie Manfredi @angiemanfredi.bsky.social · 28/05/2026Gotta love an email from @wearealsc.bsky.social promoting their fall institute with a session on helping youth lead the way to a sustainable future AND a session on how to use generative AI in your library. Those are literally contradictions & it's so embarrassing no one at ALSC acknowledges that. 1121
Angie Manfredi @angiemanfredi.bsky.social · 05/05/2026my two favorites were THE BLUE CASTLE (which remains, to me, one of the best romances EVER written and that I return to often) and A TANGLED WEB. I also loved her collection of scary short stories. OK I loved them all. But yeah, BLUE CASTLE is the absolute best, you have to read it. 110
Angie Manfredi @angiemanfredi.bsky.social · 05/05/2026Montgomery was absolutely one of the most influential writers for me in middle/high school and at the time Bantam was putting out all these paperback editions of her books, including collections of her stories (she wrote soooo many stories....just like Emily! Hmm!) so those are my beloveds, still. 110

Angie Manfredi @angiemanfredi.bsky.social · 04/05/2026I'm a Jedi ... like my mother before me. #MayTheFourthBeWithYou as for me I'll always be here waiting and hoping that someone at LucasFilms wises up and makes THE HUNT FOR BEN SOLO. 020
Angie Manfredi @angiemanfredi.bsky.social · 04/05/2026I mean yes Emily is better than Anne OBVIOUSLY but aren't you forgetting Valancy? 😉 120
Angie Manfredi @angiemanfredi.bsky.social · 04/05/2026this is genuinely such a joyous moment Daniel that I feel kind of speechless and I can't imagine how you feel. OMG CONGRATS X 100 020

Angie Manfredi @angiemanfredi.bsky.social · 04/05/2026I will never stop being frustrating that when it comes to the mystery/thriller market for youth publishing has two categories and they are "the gosh dink secret of the very cute lost puppy" and "17 year olds involved in high stakes, bloody murder conspiracies" Great, perfect, thanks. 170
Angie Manfredi @angiemanfredi.bsky.social · 01/05/2026I wish the person who wrote the smoking piece had the pleasure I had, of growing up with two chain-smoking parents for literally their entire life and never understanding what it was like to not live with that until they went to college. Real delight and so healthy too! 150
Angie Manfredi @angiemanfredi.bsky.social · 27/04/2026we have really worked on actual poetry, so I think that is the term that would fit the best. I would appreciate anything, and you know I will pay, just anyone/thing you would recommend that isn't gross disgusting useless AI 🙄 Thank yoooou. 010
Angie Manfredi @angiemanfredi.bsky.social · 27/04/2026I just don't want to use AI (gross gross gross) and make sure I get it correct but you know trying to do that on the internet these days is a nightmare, sooooo 010
Angie Manfredi @angiemanfredi.bsky.social · 27/04/2026@brandonhoang.bsky.social @trungles.com I am making a graduation gift for my 8th grader who moved here from Vietnam. She has loved your books! Angie Manfredi @angiemanfredi.bsky.social · 16/04/2026It just makes me feel like I'm...I don't know it's so much worse to talk to adults about it? The kids seem genuinely to consider it, the adults are like blank on it?? Like?! Anyway let me know if you're looking for collaborators or even want to brainstorm. OR VENT. Maybe we could try AASL?? 010
Angie Manfredi @angiemanfredi.bsky.social · 15/04/2026Yeah I do multiple lessons about it for students and I might try to apply for ISTE next year but l one wants to hear it lol it's somehow so much more depressing when it's like YOU CAN TEACH THEM HOW TO DO IT! than the kids using it? I dunno, bleak! 100
Angie Manfredi @angiemanfredi.bsky.social · 14/04/2026I am so glad I am not going to ALA this summer where every other presentation is about how SUPER AND COOL AND AMAZING AI is and how you HAVE to use it and teach with it. No thank you!!! No thanks on that one!!! 270
Angie Manfredi @angiemanfredi.bsky.social · 14/04/2026I don't mind being turned down for NCTE even though one of the ELA intervention teachers and I had an AMAZING presentation (with the stats to back it up) about how poetry has empowered her students but knowing they'll have 600000 sessions on HOW GREAT AI IS and TEACH WITH AI...now that's depressing. 1110
Angie Manfredi @angiemanfredi.bsky.social · 24/03/2026hey edu world: instead of having 53 more keynotes/sessions at conferences about how you can "teach AI ethically" and "teach your students how to use AI instead of just letting them do it" how about some sessions and keynotes on educating properly about the uselessness and dangers of it, eh? Eh? 0114
Angie Manfredi @angiemanfredi.bsky.social · 24/03/2026Huge shout-out to Rosen Publishing for creating A HUMAN BEING MADE THIS, a series for K-4. Angie Manfredi @angiemanfredi.bsky.social · 20/02/2026I still believe in a world where real people make real things and that's in part because this 7th grader crocheted this onto their hair clip, "just 'cause" and isn't that reason enough? 0202
Angie Manfredi @angiemanfredi.bsky.social · 19/02/2026daskfjsal;kdj what I think this mirrors my other big issue with threads. Every single person there I have encountered is operating from a place of bad intent, assuming the words, going to the worst conclusion as quickly as possible. I understand this is the algorithm but it is still VERY unpleasant. 030
Angie Manfredi @angiemanfredi.bsky.social · 19/02/2026also I am very old and threads ... I don't know there's something about the format that is really hard for my brain to track. I get spun off and lost it in much easier than anywhere else. I can't keep up with it as easily. Makes me sad all the old networks of authors and librarians are broken down. 150
Angie Manfredi @angiemanfredi.bsky.social · 19/02/2026Nothing but love for the avid narrative non-fiction reader who is always desperately trying to get their friends to read it as the friends only care about fiction. Kid is constantly out there hand-selling narrative NF. Spent all lunch booktalking this one. Keep at it, kid. "Just try this one." 161

Angie Manfredi @angiemanfredi.bsky.social · 29/01/2026you'd think at least regularly maybe "the most outstanding contribution to children’s literature" would be ... a picture book or an early reader or more maybe more often graphic novels. Angie Manfredi @angiemanfredi.bsky.social · 29/01/2026do y'all ever think about the truly wild coincidence that 99% of the time every single year "the most outstanding contribution to children’s literature" is ... a middle grade chapter book for ages 9-14? Angie Manfredi @angiemanfredi.bsky.social · 09/01/2026they get to add a signature at the bottom, that's why there's the white space, and of course we create personalized booklists on bookmarks for each display, which everyone - including teachers - makes a big deal over. Real joy. 150
