I grew up in the middle of fucking nowhere. I had a moped by 15 and a car/driver's license by 16. By 17 not only could I leave the house, I could - and did - move 1,000 miles away for college. Holy helicopter parenting.

I've spent the last 3 weeks in Italy and I actually feel like we may retire here in 10 years or so. For the first time, in a long time, I have some hope for my future. The trip has also allowed hubby and I to have some needed bonding time.

I was 5 years old when my much older (9 years) step brother started abusing me. This went off and on for a good 6 years. When I told my parents at 13, they didn't believe me. There was no counseling.
