But while LATAM is resource rich, and may be fertile ground for tech and crypto, it offers little in the way of industrial assets. To compete with China, we need Canada, Europe, and East Asia. Neo-colonialism is a loser. Adding Gulf capital to the mix adds little competitive advantage as well.

When Trump is gone, our allies will not trust us. They'll be beset with severe economic and political challenges, including from their own far right. We will have an entrenched tech oligarchy that sees LATAM's far-right as its ally and Europe as its enemy. And unions fighting to preserve tariffs.

America will have to choose between the resurgent far-right in Latin America, cultivated and ensconced by the Trump Administration, and our traditional liberal allies next door, across the Atlantic, and in East Asia. It's a conscious choice the next Dem POTUS will have to make. It won't be easy.
