If you were an Antarctic fur seal, should you pick the high or low density colony? I tried to answer this question in my talk @icymare.bsky.social By using machine learning to count seals and their predators, we explored how density shapes predation risk. The answer: the high density colony. 🧪

Have you considered whether animals differ in their perception of density? We explored how differences in our senses, interpretation and past experiences shapes density perception, causing behavioral differences and affecting fitness outcomes. 🧪 nsojournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...

What is responsible and rigorous science? @anelivb.bsky.social and @rebeccachen.bsky.social spent the last two days discussing this question at the #iScienceTBD workshop at @idiv-research.bsky.social. From EDI and science communication to HARKing, p-hacking, DAGs – lots of food for thought! 🌱🧠

🧪 Lab plastic waste is a huge problem - but what can we do about it? 🥼 In our lab, we tested whether reusing and washing microtitre plates could help reduce waste. In some cases, it works! ♻️ 🌍 Read more here: buff.ly/XOGSX0q #greenlab #sustainability #openscience
Cartoon of a female scientist wearing a lab coat and safety goggles. She is holding a PCR plate and stands in front of a bin filled with more plastic waste. The bin has a recycling logo in it. Behind the woman is written "Can we reuse laboratory items to reduce plastic waste?"

I had the pleasure of presenting at my first European Cetacean Society's conference. The conference in Ponta Delgada, the Azores was extremely well executed and I had a great time connecting with peers and learning more about marine mammals. #ECS #ECSconference

25th Biennial Conference on the Biology of Marine Mammals. With the theme 'fishing for change', SMM brought together scientists from near and far to share knowledge, experience and ideas. Take home message: if you take from Country, you must give back to Country. (life in balance with nature)
