This isn't the only example of a trip report horror story I've seen either. It's a truly dire situation.

Apparently, things are only getting worse at Mt. Rainier. This is just horrifying. I have never seen MRNP so mobbed as it is this year At this point, they should just close the park entirely. There are just too many people, and the park is severely understaffed. Shut. It. Down. #parkchat

Burrowing owls were once common throughout Washington State, now their numbers are dwindling fast. A little known fact is that Western Washington was once home to extensive prairies, but today nearly all of that habitat is long gone. We need to bring back the prairies, and the owls.

Burrowing Owls Nearly Gone From Washington State, WDFW Seeking Input On Endangered Species Status
Washington's burrowing owls are disappearing fast. The state fish and wildlife department is asking the public to weigh in on protecting them before they vanish entirely from most of the state.

It was a beautiful day at Seaquest State Park, but it's hard to enjoy a walk in the park when the park is running this monstrosity all afternoon! 🤬 The leaves aren't even falling in significant numbers yet. They were mostly just blowing bare, clean pavement.🙄

You can often tell a good product from a bad product by how it is marketed: Brands that floods YouTube with ads and sponsorships can be assumed to be selling something that's overpriced/underpar/sketchy. Brands that facilitate independant no-strings reviews are more likely to make good products.

The Onalaska Apple Harvest Festival is one of the best local festivals in SW Washington. Some really great booths run by local craftspeople, farms, and nonprofits.

This has got to be one of the dumbest ideas I have ever heard. An inflatable dam is idiotic in its own right, but the idea of putting such a dam on one of the most famously beautiful lakes in the country is insane and horrifying, to say the least! #parkchat www.independent.co.uk/news/world/a...

Dang, I'm still in season 2! I felt like the 2nd season fixed the problems of the 1st. Maybe I'll just skip the 3rd season lol. Despite all its problems, I think there's a really solid core to Enterprise that captures some of that TOS magic, even though some episodes are very very dumb.

Andy Zahn @andyzahn.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Yep, you're probably right about that. There are certainly a lot of problems with the show (serious plot holes, a tendency to cut cool action sequences, etc), but I think the captain, doctor, and engineer are so good that it helps balance the flaws. I'm still in season 2, so my opinion could change.

Don't get me wrong, some episodes are really dumb, and T'Pol is a drag on any scene she's in, but even at its worst Enterprise is never as irritating as a lot of TNG and Voyager episodes. There's no one annoying in Enterprise as Troy or Neelix!

I really like the choice to make the show set at a lower-tech era of the Star Trek universe. It makes things more interesting when the characters can't just fall back on what is practically magic, and the less-explored universe offers more interesting stories.

Andy Zahn @andyzahn.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
The captain, doctor, and engineer have a great dynamic. The doctor in particular is a great character. The show really improves in the second season. They thankfully sideline the boring secondary characters, as well as T'Pol, while also dramatically improving the quality of the writing.

Currently working through Star Trek: Enterprise, and honestly I think it might be the 2nd best Star Trek series after the original series. It has some poor writing in some episodes, a couple lackluster actors, and an AWFUL theme song, but overall the show is really good.

So why are you supporting Bill 2554, which would give away over 100,000 acres of our public lands, and result in the clearcutting of ancient rainforest? Why are you also supporting legislation in Colorado which would devastate public lands with clearcut logging?
001
Andy Zahn @andyzahn.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
The Nature Conservancy and The Wilderness Society, among other organizations, are supporting state legislation in Colorado and federal legislation in Alaska which result in catastrophic clearcutting. Do not donate to or support these organizations in any way. They have been subverted and corrupted.

Many of the dumbest trolls I encounter on the internet spouting blatantly false information about forests and wildlife are proud graduates of the University of Washington. The truth is that corporations have their hooks deep in UW, and they use that institution to spread propaganda.

How are working people supposed to attend public meetings in the middle of a work day? It's almost as if the powers that be would rather the public not participate in Democracy.

The truth is that the average person has no idea how deeply corrupt our society is, or how much power the wealthy actually have in this country. Every level of government, every institution, every organization, nothing is immune to the insidious rot of corruption and greed.

I wondered what that pungent aroma was that managed to overpower the rotting carcass by the side of the road today, I guess Eau De Santis managed to drift all the way down the Columbia to Longview. I did note that air quality reports were noticeably worse than usual.

I was inspired to volunteer with Dave Upthegrove's campaign because I thought he was going to protect legacy forests. I was motivated to run for public office myself when Dave betrayed all the other Washingtonians who voted and volunteered for him.

Andy Zahn @andyzahn.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
Dave Upthegrove promised to protect legacy forests. He was elected on that promise. Dave lied to voters to get elected. The Washington State Legislature needs to bypass Cutthegrove to protect legacy forests and reform forest practices. We also need to vote Dave out.

The previous order was already deceptive and disappointing. This "scaling back" is an outright betrayal of the promises that got him elected.

I'm testing out the DJI Osmo Nano right now - recording a timelapse of the Amtrak Cascades route from Vancouver BC to Kelso, WA! Love the suction cup mount it comes with, so good for this kind of journey. However, battery life is an issue for such a long shot as this.
