Wrote about the decline and fall of SCOTUSblog, which used to be the single best resource for Supreme Court stuff, and (thanks to some intervening crimes committed by its co-founder) is now a weird platform for conservative pundits to talk about what a good job the conservative justices are doing

As is the case in virtually every actual housing "abundance" policy fight that has ever occurred in a U.S. city not named SF or LA, it's conservatives and centrists standing in the way of upzoning/density and progressives and "the groups" organizing in support of it.

Council members said their neighborhoods weren’t ready for density, while housing advocates decried the change.

Flock has justifiably received tons of outrage, but Axon (and a bunch of other companies) are also purveyors of mass surveillance. Canceling a Flock contract and replacing it with an Axon one is just changing your flavor of authoritarianism.

I didn’t clock this earlier, but with the governor’s appointment of Kyle Brenton to succeed Gilbert Román on Colorado’s Court of Appeals, 10 of the 11 male judges on the court will be white. That compares with only 5 of the 11 female judges.
Governor Polis Appoints Kyle W. Brenton to the Colorado Court of Appeals and Dalia D. Labrador to the Arapahoe County Court in the 18th Judicial District

DENVER - Today, Governor Polis appointed Kyle W. Brenton to the Colorado Court of Appeals. The appointment fills the vacancy created by the retirement of the Honorable Gilbert M. Román, and is effective August 1, 2026. Governor Polis also appointed Dalia D. Labrador to the Arapahoe County Court in the 18th Judicial District. The appointment fills a vacancy created by the appointment of the Honorable A. Danielle Touart to the 18th Judicial District Court, and is effective immediately.

As violent crime in America falls, especially in urban areas of the Northeast and Midwest, homicides perpetrated by police officers skyrocket and American police establish themselves as the most violent part of US society. It seems to be a function of the legal doctrine of impunity.
