Thanks @fairless.xyz LAEPs are more whole energy system and strategic. I’d suggest our work sits underneath strategic planning to engage with the supply chain and local stakeholders to drive delivery. Whilst also being a tool that could be used to communicate and give confidence to households.

A big update on Nesta's clean heat neighbourhoods work this morning: we've published a version the local heat plan we've been working on with Plymouth…

We've got some Nesta reaction to the Budget up, underpinned by some brilliant speedy analysis by my colleague Dan Lewis. 📉 What does the budget mean for energy bills? www.nesta.org.uk/blog/what-do... @nestauk.bsky.social

Maybe sometimes more money isn’t the answer? Just doing things differently or better.

Budget day thought - What would the public sector innovation version of a budget be? An apple-esque keynote? New services or products - here’s what you can expect from gov, here’s how you’ll benefit.

Gutted. I almost managed to get over the fence at Glastonbury but was caught by security and told to go back and carry on watching Rod Stewart.

Got to stress the heat pump was not quick either - 34 days from contacting the installer to commissioning. And Andy’s circumstances were a bit unusual (primarily that he already had a hot water tank and his central heating needed some work). But still…

Had a lovely chat with @andymarsden.bsky.social about Visit a Heat Pump, and our work on clean heat neighbourhoods on @betatalk.bsky.social 's podcast. Thanks for having us!

It’s 100 years since the shipping forecast was first broadcast. A while ago I used a few Ai tools to write an energy forecast for offshore wind in the style of the shipping forecast. Is it time for an energy forecast? - murf.ai/share/lk895u0q

Getting a heat pump can be complex. Many will need to make home improvements first to be 'heat pump ready.' Nesta's @acjsissons.bsky.social suggests a 2-step journey: a winter-ready service to optimise current systems, followed by a second step to support the switch to a heat pump. bit.ly/4isiHZL

One of the big things I'm working on atm is Clean Heat Neighbourhoods - the idea we could switch to clean heating alongside neighbours, not just on our own. But it's hard to explain - so we made a video to try and do that... (starring @andymarsden.bsky.social) www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xjd4...

What did politicians and news presenters do in cold weather before wearing Uniqlo padded gilets under a more formal jacket? It’s a terrible look.

I've got a quick policy brief out this morning, on the case for local planning of heat and energy in Britain. Local plans could help in many ways, making the transition smoother and probably cheaper overall. We should do it everywhere, and fund it properly! www.nesta.org.uk/project-upda...

Yes, and it’ll depend on the type of property as to which solution is best. Nothing springs to mind to divert air flow but you may want to check out www.instagram.com/heatpumpchic... run by a colleague for some inspiration.

Thanks Annie - my colleagues have done some work on noise levels. (www.nesta.org.uk/report/air-s...) Placement of the outdoor unit is important! We’re interested in looking at shared ground source hp arrays, heat networks and other solutions in this work. It may mean an outdoor unit isn’t needed.

Thanks frank! There’s already a suitable base in the orientation we’d hope to move it to! Good to know it’s pretty straightforward. I’ll chat to our installer!

After heat pump advice - I'm hopefully having an ASHP installed as our boilers broken - it'll be installed in a position that isn't where we'd want it long-term. How much work/cost is involved in moving the outdoor unit once we have planning? We're only really talking about rotating it 90 degrees.
