Fun fact: the student management system used by 40% of Australian higher education providers is a 2007 ASP.NET app that has no MFA implementation. Don't worry it's only holding the migration, medical, financial and academic data of vulnerable people in one of Australia's biggest export sectors

Stumbled on an article by my grandfather (an OT lecturer) in 1962 on why theological colleges are not "the place" for training ministers! Here's my summary www.andyjudd.com/blog/college...

View from 1962: a theological college is not the place for training ministers — Andy Judd
Donald Robinson's 1962 essay asked what a theological college is really for. Sixty-four years on, his radical, biblical answer still challenges how we train for ministry.

Is Song of Songs an allegory? Nah. Too sexy. BUT it is definitely theological. It is about sexuality: as important a theological topic as any. And if all we had to go on was narratives describing how the patriarchs treat their wives, then "God as husband" (Eph 5 etc) would not be a great metaphor

A review of Modern Genre Theory in JETS has finally raised the authorial elephant in the room! Evangelicals often struggle with the move between descriptive (this is how people read) and normative (this is how we should read) hermeneutical projects. I tried to be clear, but maybe not clear enough?

Thinking about the genre of Judges, I went and looked up a form critical commentary on the book of Judges. The answer? "Judges has no genre. Judges is not a book. There is no such thing as Judges and you are wrong to even ask this question. This commentary should not exist." OK thanks my bad.

"I only wish I could have read this book when I was a graduate student" ☺️ awww... Just saw this review of Modern Genre Theory in Bulletin for Biblical Research by Daniel Smith which says nice things and (more importantly for the review genre) nicely summarises what the book is and who might use it.

This is how it ends: academic hyper-regulation, despite contributing nothing to knowledge or learning or formation of actual students, steadily increases until 2035 when AcAdmin accounts for 100% of the cost of higher education. The System's solution is never not more System.
