If only Congress were alive to see this:
I have just concluded a highly successful discussion with President Vladimir Putin, of Russia, wherein it was agreed that Russia will immediately supply over 300,000 Tons of Diesel Fuel to the American and Global Marketplace, another 500,000 Tons during the month of November, and 1,000,000 Tons immediately thereafter. Additionally, based on the condition of their Diesel Refineries, Russia will then deliver, within a short period of time, 3,000,000 Tons of Diesel Fuel. Between our TOTAL CONTROL of the Strait of Hormuz, and this great announcement on Russian Energy, Diesel Prices for Americans and, indeed, the World, will be COMING DOWN, IN RECORD NUMBERS, AND FAST! Lower prices for Americans, especially our Great Farmers, Ranchers, and Truckers, is my Greatest Priority. This is a very big and important announcement. Additionally, it must be understood, that Iran will not have a Nuclear Weapon! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP

US unveils sanctions on ICC in move court condems as 'assault on rule of law'
The European Union described the move against the International Criminal Court as "deeply regrettable".

Whilst some in Labour still push universality, it’s obviously much harder to justify such an expensive policy on little more than “vibes” The Department of Education has so many other higher priorities that will make a difference for a fraction of the spend

As you probably know I agree with you on Universal FSM, it’s a nice to have but isn’t a priority for policymakers I think Sadiqs initiative has actually sealed its fate The research shows there are no additional health benefits, it didn’t improve attendance & it had no impact on attainment

Bournemouth echo has effectively become a fan magazine for fascists and does everything it can to promote the cause Doxing a hotel where the suspect stayed and leading with “migrant” It’s deliberately inciting protest

Not least because when you look at the evidence, universal FSM doesn’t improve children’s health It doesn’t improve academic outcomes or attendance rates FSM stigma is incredibly rare nowadays, despite what the scaremongers say Universal FSM in phenomenally expensive & there are higher priorities

And of course that’s the problem with this campaign They overstate potential impact, ignore the cost and deceive people by pretending it’s “for all” when it’s not The main beneficiaries are middle & high income families Not the demographic I’m overly concerned about Far better to target support

If you have to ration food support, why would you prioritise based on year group rather than focus on income or deprivation Seems bizarre to give free food to well off juniors whilst thousands of older children from low income households are going hungry

This is a really positive move by Angela Eagle I’d love to see DfE build on the policy and pilot Community eligibility Properly fund schools in areas of high deprivation so they can provide free meals to all their pupils www.gov.uk/government/n...
gov.uk
Government acts on food insecurity and affordability with £10 million to put good food within reach
Almost £10 million will be invested in 45 communities across England to improve access to healthy, affordable food in areas with the highest levels of deprivation

Feel decidedly uncomfortable seeing all the consultancies popping up offering to help negotiate the upcoming changes to the School Food Standards I’m not even sure we have the final version yet DfE are failing badly if the changes are so complicated schools need to pay for an explanation

Are we supposed to believe Man City went legit in 2018 & these scams suddenly stopped? If City want to be rehabilitated back into football, the Premier League must send in forensic auditors to check all recent finances Going forward City not only need to be clean, they need to be seen to be clean

I went to visit my late father in his care home one evening His dinner consisted of three cream crackers with cheap pate & some wilted lettuce Then the owners of the care home pulled up in their Lamborghini Urus and it all made sense

“The honest conclusion, and the one this chapter adopts, is that universal free school meals are best defended as an equity-driven, cost of living transfer with genuine but secondary efficiency benefits, not as a programme that pays for itself on resource grounds alone” 🙄

Andy Jolley @andyjolley.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Uuniversal free school meals can’t be justified as a programme that pays for itself on resource grounds alone That’s because it has no significant impact on attendance, health or attainment, so we get the spurious issue of equality & some dubious claim of efficiency All for £5 billion 🙄

Even if the standards were about nutrition, they are routinely ignored by most schools Even then. If the meals were all super healthy, the take up rate is around 70% with some areas 50% And even then much of that food goes uneaten with vast amounts going into the waste bin
000
Andy Jolley @andyjolley.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
We can start at the beginning Where is the evidence universal FSM leaves children “well nourished” The school food standards are not nutritional standards The alternative of paid for meals are of equal nutritional value Today’s packed lunches tend to be better nutritionally than school meals

My favourite solution to the Manchester City problem would be to tie the punishment period to the timeframe of when they broke the rules A 25 points deduction for each of the next nine seasons And nine years where they’re renamed “Manchester Cheats” on all league tables and club merchandise

Andy Jolley @andyjolley.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
That’s simply not true There was a large scale pilot and we have universal FSM for all juniors in London, both significant sample sizes
000
Andy Jolley @andyjolley.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
Given the take up rates, it's clear universal FSM doesn't leave Young people well nourished or cared for FSM doesn't guarantee good, healthy, nutritionally balanced food or reduce unhealthy, ultraprocessed foods & certainly doesn't save the NHS £billions
100
Andy Jolley @andyjolley.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
You seem to just be making stuff up to justify yourself There is nothing in that list that can't be achieved by better off parents paying, enabling DfE to better target funds on improving the life chances of children

Because universal FSM is an incredibly expensive policy that has few if any benefits There are other higher priorities for education spending

Changes in guidance and science seem to have little impact on millions of devastated lives. It’s a social crisis playing out behind closed doors, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Can’t understand why BBC2 chose a repeat of 1961 Doris Day film over live coverage of the Red Roses v Black Ferns game They have the broadcast rights and it’s on Iplayer, but surely the interest in the women’s game would generate better ratings and bring in more supports

I asked after you supported a free school meals campaign that is only interested in primary, so I was wondering what the argument was for ignoring secondary pupils It seems to me, if you can either argue for every pupil, or accept rationing & decide who to prioritise, in this case all KS2 pupils
