After 𝘟, 𝘞𝘦𝘭𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘈𝘳𝘦 and 𝘍𝘶𝘭𝘭 𝘔𝘰𝘰𝘯, 𝘋𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘺 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘴 were each strong offerings with a few great tracks. But this one sounds like how I imagine people who don't like the band think all of their music sounds like.

He strikes a decent balance between the earlier classics and his later work, but I would have liked more songs from his solo albums in place of a couple of those Commotions tracks. When it's an artist with such a rich repetoire, I tend to hope 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺'𝘳𝘦 enjoying the set and am happy with what we get.

Lloyd Cole at The Chapel in San Francisco. He's suggested this will be his last visit to our west coast, but that's probably down to the economics of touring rather than any loss in capabilities. I enjoyed the switch to electric guitar, which gave the songs a different flavour to previous outings.

Had a little music group back in the early 90s and a song that opened with a sample of that.

@amoebamusic.bsky.social: Is there a chance you could rope @lloydcole.bsky.social into doing an episode of What's in My Bag? He'll be in both San Francisco and Hollywood in the next couple of weeks. youtu.be/hMdyuUk94Ao?...

Decent weather on Saturday for biking on the Monterey Bay Coastal Trail.

Monterey State Beach in Seaside, California just off the Coastal Trail.

Sand City Beach at the end of Tioga Avenue.

I know we're supposed to have stopped enjoying this act, but I can separate the art from the artist. And that cover version featuring Robert Smith is still devastatingly good. #CDFriday

Even earlier, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘬𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘯 most certainly was an influence on Al Jourgensen. That album seemed to set a templete for not only Ministry, but quite a few Industrial acts. I've always wondered whether Trent was influenced directly by the Cabs or secondhand.

𝘚𝘭𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 and 𝘔𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘰 are perhaps not as consistent as 𝘊𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘭𝘦𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥, but the peaks are very high. And with 𝘔𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘰, my favourites aren't actually the singles. I love "Close Your Eyes" and this lovely collaboration with Liz and Robin of Cocteau Twins: youtu.be/IoN8A_GV0y8?...

In recognition of the new Echo & the Bunnymen release having Ian firmly at the controls, my #CDFriday belongs to Mr. McCulloch. The CD reissues of his first two albums are well worth seeking out.

Ian McCulloch on CD and CD single. The generous reissues of his first two longplayers made my CD singles from that era redundant.

I live within 2 miles of the Monterey County Fairgrounds but feel a tinge of guilt at this time each year because I'm not interested in attending. They always book heavy hitters. Now if they revived the Monterey Pop Festival... montereyjazz.org
