@mazzucatom.bsky.social very interesting on Channel 4. Particularly enjoyed Michael Gove’s expression as she set out the damage of Brexit. Interesting on debt vs GDP and austerity too.

What is it about human nature (or reporting rules) that minimises things it can’t deal with. News channels reporting dozens of dead in the Nepal disaster when it is patently obvious there will be thousands.

I saw this phrase today “I’ve emailed you twice and rang several times…”. Can someone explain why I want it to be “rung several times”. Maybe because I am am applying the earlier “have” to it “I have … rung” rather than “I rang”. My theoretical English is not good enough to name the reason.

Potentially interesting interview with Mike Doustdar (CEO Novo Nordisk) on ITV this morning ruined. Looked like a long interview hacked to pieces. If the next general election is held under First Past the Post, we could get a government that 25% of people voted for. Or we could end up in a situation where the winning party is not the one that got the most votes. This is an emergency. Proportional Representation can't wait - we need it now 🚨

I wonder what would happen if we treated public figures like artists. Explicitly assign their actions/achievements to a period where their influences changed. “Elon created the Powerwall in his ketamine period”. “Trump tower was built during his active paedophile period.”

Reading many posts about solar power today and I don’t think I have seen anyone argue for home solar as a resilience measure. If your electricity comes from 20 million individual power stations it becomes very hard to completely take out the power with one drone/storm.

Old school tech idea: a standard XML/JSPN format for recipes so you can copy/paste them and save them in your shopping account and select the recipes you will cook rather than the ingredients. I imagine it would be a great “stickiness” feature.

I may have missed some but it seems that all the US casualties in the war on Iran so far are cock-ups rather than combat. Friendly fire, refuelling accident, laundry fire etc. I am starting to think that getting rid of all the “wokery“ like OSHA might be a bad idea after all.
