On-brand fuel for an all-day training session in the day job. I’m going to be a “dynamic presenter” after this, apparently (exact percentage increase in personal dynamism not quantified)

Fun fact, I’m having a 24 hr ECG at the moment and the doctor told me to note down any palpitations. I reminded them the football was on.

This has been great and all but can we have 20 very boring minutes to finish things off?

So if I understand correctly, if we get through we can get the UK government on the phone to Infantino and the red card doesn’t count, right?

I’m figuring I’ll sleep well after a bottle of this during the Brazil Norway game, and that’ll then get me some shut-eye before the England game!

Did a World Cup brew that’s ready just in time for the knockout stages ⚽️ An 8% American double dry-hopped IPA with seven different hop varieties involved in the build-up!

The most red cards in a World Cup was in 2006 (28) and after one game of the 2026 World Cup we’re already over 10% of that figure. Should be fun!

Minor equipment upgrade for this month’s brewing session – having a better heater AND a thermostat control is making things a lot faster!

Fantastic weather for #EelDay in Ely today! For the unfamiliar, the giant eel of the fens was successfully placated by casting a few local children into its gaping jaws, and it was then driven back to the river for another year.

Phew, I guess they call it a brew day for a reason. Took a while but it’s now happily fermenting away! Now time to sit back and drink to Orbán’s electoral demise 🥳

First brew day since before kids! And first time attempting all-grain brewing. Aiming for a fairly straightforward mosaic pale ale in time for a Eurovision party next month…

Sadly a few print issues with this layer which means I’m not entirely happy with it. Came out a bit patchy – may have been too much paint. Will try and salvage some tomorrow…

I think linotype is a genuine thing, though! I did a linocut workshop last weekend and it was super helpful, hope yours is just as good.

You’ll have to excuse my ignorance for not knowing the exact difference between linocut and linotype – I’m guessing linotype is more text-focused?

Some more linocut experimentation yesterday evening. Still keeping stuff relatively simple while I play around – might need some better rollers based on the slight patchiness on this one!

I had the exact same with a student years ago with copper sulfate crystals. I delighted in reading them the MSDS (“convulsions, paralysis and coma”)

Andy Brunning @andy.compoundchem.com · 13/01/2026
I’d guess dependent on student age as well, the students I taught who tried it were between 13-16 years old which I feel is probably the peak age for making decisions without considering the consequences
010
Andy Brunning @andy.compoundchem.com · 13/01/2026
Could be! Although kids eating copper sulfate definitely predates the appearance of TikTok, which only just existed towards the tail end of my teaching career.

A colleague just incredulously emailed me this article and I, completely unsurprised, noted that while teaching I had at least two students try to eat copper sulfate crystals. Something about those blue crystals is clearly too alluring! www.tes.com/magazine/new... #ChatChemistry
