Converting my voice satellites from Wyoming Protocol to Linux Voice Assistant is proving to be a somewhat painful process, but sadly, Wyoming is deprecated. At least Google and Amazon don't know if I turn off a light and LVA doesn't try to upsell me to "Plus" or show me ads. Two down, three to go.

Hey Mum! I'm gonna put my moff unner the frij to save for later, OK?" --sTuffin🐾
Stephanie the tuxedo cat is lying on a light brown floor, in the process of stuffing a large, mostly dead moth under a stainless steel fridge. She caught it at some point during the night, out in their catio, brought it in the house, beat the poor thing up until it could no longer fly and I couldn't even identify the species. She left it on the kitchen floor for me, and after I'd told her it was a lovely gift, she picked it up, dropped it in front of the fridge, and stuffed it under with her cat hands. I'll assume she's saving it for later.

I don't know what I did, but Beans clearly disapproves!
Beans the tabby cat sits on the arm of a loveseat next to a small side table. On the table are a couple of plants and a wifi router. Beans looks, to say the least, unimpressed. I've no idea why; she rarely uses her RBF anymore, but there it is!

You can putta groshry 'way later. I'm usin 'em right now. --sTuffin🐾
A mask and mantle tuxedo cat is lying on a beige grocery bag, half on a rug and half on the floor. I was too tired after work yesterday to do more than drop the groceries by the door, which makes Stephanie happy because she loves to lie on plastic bags, especially if there's something *in* the bags. Even if it's something hard. She likes to lie with her upper body slight elevated; I have no idea why. At this moment, she was reclining on my box of snack crackers, but she's nowhere near heavy enough to crush it. Stephanie is an odd little thing, but I don't mind occasionally leaving a few bags of non-perishables by the door for a day or so if it keeps her from finding "something else" (Stephanie-style 😮) to do. She'll help me put them away later, I'm sure. Cat help...which is to say no help at all!

Something planted it for me last year, and this year, it bloomed.
Maypop flower (Passiflora incarnata) in bloom in my yard. I meant to move it to a better spot last fall, but forgot about it, and I guess it didn't mind. Normally, Japanese beetles absolutely *destroy* maypops, but over the years, I have encouraged birds and critters like skunks and opossums to hang around my property, and they do a good job of digging grubs to keep the beetle population in check. I give them a quiet place where they feel safe to live and raise their kids, and they give me chemical-free, zero-effort pest control at no cost.

Team Cat Lady: 1 Team Landfill: 0
Two white Petlibro Polar feeders sitting side by side on a light brown floor. Beside them, an automatic dry food feeder. Beans isn't a huge fan of dry food, and I had got her a Polar so she could snack during the day in between regular meals. Three days before the warranty expired, it stopped cooling. I contacted the manufacturer, and they sent a new one, telling me to throw the first one away. I, however, had a pretty good idea why it had stopped cooling. The fan worked, it connected to wifi, and the door opened/bowl turned as expected, so I figured the Peltier module that kept it cool had failed. I opened it up, removed the heatsink, and saw that condensation had got onto the module, almost certainly shorting it out. They're cheap--about $4--and the one in the unit was common, so I bought a couple, some suitable thermal paste, and replaced it. Plugged it in, and it started getting cold right away. So, now that Stephanie has decided she does, in fact, like canned food (still not in her bowl...just the feeder 🙄) she has her own and Beans won't have to share. Repair parts cost me $11, and the original feeder doesn't go to a landfill. Win-win!

Ain't nobody here but us plantses! --sTuffin🐾
Stephanie the mask and mantle tuxedo cat is sitting inside an unused terracotta plant pot beside a floral love seat in the living room near the window. Another, white terracotta pot is tipped over beside her. Why is she in a plant pot? Because Stephanie. Why is the other pot tipped over? Because Stephanie. What is she looking at? She's looking at me, after my just having told her to get her furry little Oreo arse out, since she's broken two of these pots already.

But this is lots better than kitty beds! --sTuffin🐾
Stephanie the mask and mantle tuxedo cat is curled up in a grocery bag among some boxes I need to break down because tomorrow is trash day. The bag was just tossed on the pile of boxes, but she pulled it off and stuck her head into it until she got it open, then made it into a nest. Like all cats, she loves boxes, but she likes making nests from plastic grocery bags, too. She doesn't chew them like she does boxes, so I let her have any she finds until I can't stand literal trash on the floor any longer. It's not like the house isn't full of comfortable cat beds, and the cat trees have hammocks, and there's obviously upholstered furniture, but nope--boxes and grocery bags! I installed a new cat door for The Herd this weekend, and I'm glad I don't have to return it because when Stephanie realized that there was absolutely no way she could fit into it, she chewed it. She doesn't eat the cardboard; just spits it out on the rug for me to clean up.

Stevie Cookie, trying yet again to get out of the Cat Cave. There's a reason their RFID door is powered by an AC adapter rather than batteries; he unlocks the door with his chip, then just...sits there, draining the batteries while he plans his next move. He did make it out...eventually. 😹
Stevie Cookie, a mask and mantle tuxedo cat, is peering out through the cat door to the Cat Cave (used to be the garage). The door is RFID; it unlocks with the cats' microchips, and makes an audible click when it does. Cookie, however, is not the brightest guy, and hasn't made the connection between the click sound and "I can open it now"; he seems to think it's some sort of random magic that happens if he sits there long enough. The door is powered by four AA batteries, and while power use is negligible when it's locked, it uses a lot to hold it unlocked. My late husband's cats had one of these doors, and the batteries needed changing twice a year. I have Cookie, though, and a new set of Duracell or Energizer was lasting a little over a week, so I bought an AC adapter that has one live cell, and three dummy cells to fill the spaces. Considering I've seen Cookie sit there as long as twenty minutes, his chip holding the door unlocked, but his 640K RAM brain not yet having processed what to do next, it was the only viable solution. Poor Cookie...so cute, so sweet, so dumb. 🖤🤍🖤

I'm watching hordes of small flying insects over the flowerbeds in the back yard, sun reflecting off their wings. Dragonflies are zipping back and forth, back and forth, through the swarms, and I'm imagining them with mouths wide open, front legs shoveling food in as fast as they can.

OK you can sit in my chair, but oney if you geddover an make rooms for me. --sTuffin🐾
Stephanie, a mask and mantle tuxedo cat, has squeezed herself in between me and the arm of my office chair. In the background are two resin printers, and some stacks of filament for FDM printers, and a notepad Stephanie knocked onto the floor. This is her new thing; come in at a dead run, jump onto the back of the chair, wait a minute, then put her cat hands on the chair arm and slooowly climb down, carefully balancing, until she's squeezed herself between me and the chair arm. Then she looks at me as if to say, "Scooch over and pet me!", and of course, I do. If I'm not in my chair, she is; that's her new favourite place to sleep. It's certainly not the most comfortable place she could sleep, but it's where she wants to be because cat.

Thunderstorm, rain, tornado siren blaring, fire truck sirens going by out on the highway. Beans: "What? You're disturbing my catio time."
Beans the tabby cat in her catio, calm as can be in spite of all the noise. She loves it out there; she doesn't want to go outside in the open, but she spends most of her time sleeping in their little catio.

Stephanie the tuxedo cat is lying on an old towel I use on the couch when I've been working outside in the dirt. Oh, Stephanie, what happened? Poor babycat; how did you get a boo-boo on your nose? Stephanie: What boo-boo? What nose? Watcha got there? Lemme see!
A very unflattering, blurry closeup of Stephanie the tuxedo cat's face. I was trying to take a picture so I could get a better look at the side of her nose--"Stephanie" and "still" rarely occur in the same sentence--but of course she had to stick her face right up in the camera lens, with a bonus blep. She's not really a pretty girl, but she's cute, and she has so much personality. Stephanie is cat-shaped, but what she actually *is* remains a mystery. Insane Oreo Gremlin is the closest I can come to a description.

I like milkweed flowers...they look as if they're made of wax. Bonus tiny black friend; probably a feather legged fly. 💚🩷
The dusky pink flowers and leaves of common milkweed, Asclepias syriaca, with bonus tiny friend, probably a feather legged fly. I made a flowerbed for the milkweed, planted it, and...it said, "Nah," and decided instead to roam the yard, planting itself wherever it wanted. Fortunately, I have a Yard Mullet; business in the front, party in the back. The front is neat for people, but the back yard belongs to me, the plants, and the creatures that live there, so if milkweed wants to roam, or 7' tall giant hyssop decides the front of the flowerbed is the place to be, or pipevine takes over the southwest corner, we're fine with that. We love green, and colourful flowers, and living things, and we're not fussy about how it looks. We don't let perfect get in the way of good.

Not great because I was doing yard work and all I had was my phone, but Eastern Pondhawk is a favourite. 💚
Female or juvenile male Eastern Pondhawk dragonfly. Vivid green with black patches on the abdomen. Adult males are a blue and look as if they've been coated with a dusting of fine white powder. This one would have grown up in my frog pond, and was perched on pipevine as it hunted in The Flowerbed That Pipevine Ate about 50' from the pond. Seriously...I planted one scrawny pipevine ten or so years ago, and now it owns the southwest corner of my yard. Not that Pipevine Swallowtail butterflies are particularly upset about that...

Not sure what to call this.
Stephanie the tuxedo cat is lying on her back with only her top half visible. Her cat hands are held out in front of her, bent at the wrist. Her light green eyes look as if she's seen something strange and the very tip of her tongue is poking out of her mouth. I was just petting her; I don't know why she looks like this.

Hello, little glow-butt! 💛
A firefly, most likely Common Eastern (Photinus pyralis), perched on a leaf of Dutchman's Pipe (Aristolochia macrophylla), waiting for dusk to start the light show. There were none, but I built them a place to live and breed, and they came. (I still make sure my neighbour doesn't know there's a pile of decomposing wood down by the creek. Poor guy would probably have a stroke.)

Trumpet creeper can absolutely be a thug, but I knew exactly what I was planting, and have it contained. Once these open, I'll have some happy hummingbirds!
Soon-to-open blooms of Campsis radicans, trumpet creeper. Controlled, it's a beautiful native vine with big, bright orange trumpet-shaped flowers, beloved by hummingbirds. Uncontrolled, it can take over a yard, a deck, a house, and possibly your car if it's parked too long! 😄 I have it in two places: an 18-year-old one on a 10' high purpose-built pergola in the back yard, by itself so I can mow all around it, and a younger one on the south side that I'm training into tree form. That one is near the house, so I cut the bottom from a big storage tote, sunk it in the ground, and planted the vine within, so it can't send underground runners and engulf my house. Trumpet creeper has a bad reputation because people think it'd be pretty right beside the house...and it is, but this is a vine that means business, so you have to be careful where you plant it, and remove seed pods before they mature!

My copilot. I found him on the windshield when I left work. Not wanting him to blow away, I opened the door and herded him into the car. He hung out on the dash, probably criticizing my driving, until I got home and herded him to the outside of the car. Phidippus audax, the bold jumping spider. 💚
Rear view of a male Phidippus audax spider on the door frame of a red car. He refused to turn around for the camera, but jumping spiders are the puppies of the arachnid world, and P. audax is definitely one of the cutest. Chonky, fuzzy bodies, black and white, with big eyes and metallic green chelicerae (fangs). They seem more curious about people than they are afraid, and will often stop and look up at you. Why, I don't know, because to a spider, we're so big they can't even see all of us at once, so we're viewed more as mobile landscape than individual creatures. Bold jumpers are sometimes kept as pets, and may even follow a laser pointer like a cat, but I prefer mine free. I didn't name this guy, but I had one named Tim who lived for a few weeks between the window and screen of a storm door. He moved out and moved on over the long weekend. Wishing a long and happy life both to Tim, and to Copilot Spider. ❤️

Delphinium is notoriously finicky and hard to grow. For that reason, I've never tried; I don't have time for fussy flowers. I went into the Flowerbed That Pipevine Ate to make sure my baby dogwood wasn't getting strangled, and...I have delphinium. I'll guess they're wild.
Small stand of some kind of delphinium that has randomly appeared in a woefully overgrown and fairly neglected wildflower bed in my back yard. I guess the trick to growing delphinium is...don't even try and they just appear? Closer view of the delphinium blooms. Most are white and a few are purple. I'd assume they're wild; I can't imagine how a cultivated variety could have got there.

Miki the dilute tortoiseshell cat is comfortably ensconced in a big pile of sweetgum balls and leaves that I've finally gathered up. That's the last of them. Unless you have one, you have no idea how many sweetgum balls a large tree can produce! It would seem she didn't get the memo that sweetgum balls are a cat deterrent. She and Andy were napping in them earlier. Having stepped on the balls enough times, I can assure you that they are spiky and sharp, but cat deterrent? Hmm...

A self-saucing cake in a metal non-stick pan. The cake batter and the sugar/butter/boiling water all go into the pan, and the cake bakes up through as the water reduces in the sauce. Similar to pouding chômeur. Best warm, fresh out of the oven.

Backpack (left) and Andy (right), both bicolour tabbies, crashed out flat on a patio that someone really should clear of weeds. Why they sleep on the concrete when there are any number of softer surfaces available can be answered only by, "Because cat". It's not even hot; it's a magnificent day. Who you callin' Fat Man?
Backpack, a bicolour tabby cat, is half-crouched on a concrete patio. Viewed from the front, he's basically four circles and two triangles because he's rather fat. All of The Herd gained a lot of weight the first winter they were here, living in the heated Cat Cave (insulated garage) with food, water, and cat bathrooms all available without going outside, but only Backpack didn't lose it in spring. He's been a chonker ever since. I can't restrict his food because The Herd are semi-feral, and all eat together; they have their routine that they've known for years. He doesn't take anyone else's canned food; he just likes his kitty crunchies a bit too much. At least he still fits through the cat door, I guess.

It turned chilly this morning.
Miki the dilute tortoiseshell and Andy the bicolour tabby are curled up together in a wooden box I built for a summer cat bed. It's chilly and rainy today, but not enough for them to go in the Cat Cave (garage). Miki was the first feral who showed up here, and I'd planned to socialize her for a house cat. She, however, had her own plans, which most emphatically did not include being a house cat, and after establishing herself here, brought her friend Andy. Now, The Herd are six, and Beans and Stephanie in the house. I figure I'm about one cat short of crazy. Miki and Andy are no longer feral, but the only human they tolerate is the Bringer of Food and Provider of Warm, Dry Shelter...me. If The Herd see or hear anyone else, they just...disappear. I can pet some of them sometimes, and sometimes not, and two of them think I'm Satan bearing a bowl of canned cat food, but that's okay. It's enough that they're fed, safe, vaccinated, and not making more feral cats that no one wants.

Im makin cute bunny feet for Mum now. In case I gotta do somethin I ain't sposta later. --sTuffin🐾
Stephanie the tuxedo cat, lying on her back on the carpet (in the middle of the floor, of course), with her feet all tucked in towards her body, and her tail wrapped around the bottom. She knows I think this is cute, so I'm sure she has something naughty planned for later. Probably the middle of the night, and it'll probably wake me up, so she's scoring some You Can't Be Mad, I'm Adorable points ahead of time.

The chonkiest boy makes the best pillow. --Miki
Miki the dilute tortoiseshell girl is in a cat bed on the shelf in their Cat Cave (garage). She has her head on what appears to be a big, oval tabby pillow, but is in fact, the rear view of Backpack, curled into a ball in the bed. He's my fattest cat; not so fat that he can't run and climb (he can, though he's lazy) but plenty chonky, especially after a long winter in the heated Cat Cave with food, water, cat bathrooms, and comfy beds all nearby. Miki is the only girl in The Herd, the smallest of all my cats, and while her tortoiseshell coat may be dilute, her tortitude is full-strength, and she rules the boys. Not with an iron fist, but with a small, tidy, grey foot full of claws and a hiss that means business. 😹

Mum worked an worked alla day outdoors doin Random Axe of Daffydills. Whatever them is. An never played with me an Beans none. So I sleeped alla day an I'm gonna run around alla night a keep her 'wake! 😸 --sTuffin🐾
Stephanie the tuxedo cat is lying half upside-down on a fuzzy light blue blanket. I'm *so* happy she was able to sleep the whole day while I was schlepping my middle-aged and tired self around the yard, surgically extracting multiple varieties of daffodils planted by the squirrels to put them all in one area I dubbed Random Acts of Daffodils. If I was careful enough, and I hope I was, they should still bloom this year, and maybe I'll figure out what some of them actually are. I have some particularly industrious squirrels; God alone knows where they found the bulbs! 😄

"Oh, it's like Christmas and my birthday, all in one! My beloved Miki has allowed me to be near her, and hasn't hissed or slapped me once!" --George of Orange
Miki the dilute tortoiseshell is lying in a cat bed behind George of Orange, who probably isn't comfortable on the old cushion I took out of the car, but he doesn't care because he's near his beloved Miki, and (for once) she's tolerating him. She usually doesn't want him around her, but it's such a nice day that she must be feeling magnanimous. 😄

The box is moving. I don't know why...
A Walmart box on a carpeted floor. I heard something rustling and looked over. I wonder what could be attached to these furry little white toes, and by the way, where is Stephanie?

Seriously, guys? This is a one-cat bed!
Miki (dilute tortoiseshell), Andy, and Backpack (bicolour tabbies) are all somehow squeezed into a bed sized for one cat on the floor of their garage. I know my cats, so I know exactly what happened. Andy and Backpack--both chonkers--were in the bed, then Miki came along and just shoved her way in. Miki is the smallest of all my cats, and the only girl of The Herd, but *nobody* challenges her authority; she does what she wants. 😸
