The Great and Secret Show by Clive Barker. I read it in 2004 or 2005 maybe and it was unlike anything I'd ever experienced. A lot of the time I struggled to comprehend what was even happening and yet I was compelled to continue reading. Actually I think I'm due for a reread :D.

I wonder if some of this kind of thing is folk's refusal or inability to recognize that a show or movie simply doesn't resonate with them. I think fandom makes it difficult for people to say "there isn't anything wrong with this thing but it isn't for me".

It's strange how polarizing this movie is. I saw it in high school years after it came out and found it charming, whimsical, funny. I suppose it is a little long and maybe the music is doing some heavy lifting in the emotional beats. But the amount of hate the movie gets feels disingenuous.

Have you seen The Deadly Spawn? If not, it might be worth a watch. It's not shot on shiteo but it is a super low budget B-horror alien invasion splatter-gore kind of thing from the early 80s. Pretty stupid and charming.

I cant pretend to understand the motivation for doing this. But I must admit I much prefer a "somehow Palpatine returned" kind of solution, as much as I barfed at that, as opposed to a "rewatch 40 hours of material with X minutes of new info to be ready for this movie" kind of approach.

no, i was just curious if you thought something that hadnt been written could be read. anyway it seems you agree that reading is more than the physical act. my suggestion is only one step removed from that - reading isnt necessarily tied to the physical act of reading at all.
