An immediate example of the unbiquity of fintech emerged as I was pointing @paullangley.bsky.social in the direction of his hotel. We were approached by two Big Issue sellers who responded to our stock apology of 'Sorry, no change' with, 'But we have a card reader'. They did: an app on a mobile.

The enormous uprecedented SCALE of the American AI investment boom is "crowding out" investment going into any other sectors of the economy. At this point in mid 2026, it is literally sucking away all factors of production - capital, land, labour, knowledge, ecology.

Response from publisher after library queried why I was unable to download a chapter from a new ebook: “our system believes this eBook is only 1x page long so when you try to print/copy it, it will only allow you to print/copy 10% of 1 page which is why is isn’t working.” So many, many questions.

What you're saying when you say "DEI" when universities say "EDI" (as happens here) and vice versa. And why it actually matters. The great majority of UK (esp. British) universities use "EDI" while US universities use "DEI". Is that "just" semantic, or does it matter? A thread. 🧵1/8

It would! Should include discussion of when and why 'dustmen' became binmen, probably from the 1970s onwards, perhaps linked to the decline of coal as a domestic fuel with the rise of gas central heating. Also the growing volumes of non-fuel disposable household waste.
