This certainly shows why I vibe with you! Larry Norman, Starflyer and Zao all are absolutely fundamental as a music lover as well. Larry Norman growing up in a hippy Christian household, Starflyer being the first show I ever went to at 16, and Zao making me realize that metal is gorgeous

100%. The economics of that scene (t was very cheap and accessible in terms of all-ages) was essential to it developing. The effects of the internet and streaming is enormous I'm sure. And yeah - when MXPX, Underoath, and others were successful outside the scene that was a tell for the future

I do think that the primary reason for how/why the scene existed in the 90's and how/why it ceased to exist in the 00's is all related to cultural/political/economic issues. Everything changed after 9/11 in the USA - both in terms of politics and in terms of Christian/Evangelical church

Beautifully said. I interviewed a decent amount of people from that scene hoping to chronicle some of the history. I know there are other people doing that as well these days. I've always been tempted to write a book about the subject but that's a bit overwhelming...
