Daði Freyr. He’s kinda techno-pop and he always puts on a fantastic show.

While her music wasn’t in my wheelhouse, her graciousness and kindness as a human being made me a fan of Dolly Parton the person. She was the best of us and I am saddened by her passing.

So I was kinda hoping to have this all ready in time for RMRRF but I don't think it's in the cards. To make up for that, here's a sneak peak at pieces from my upcoming NASA Chess set.

Seeing as how we're still character limited and I'm really too tired to do a threaded post;
Hey fam, a little PSA I want to share with y'all.
Last week Mrs. Sunbeam went in for a check up with her PCP. Pretty much a normal check up until Mrs. S mentioned a problem that she’d been having, something that didn’t feel overly troubling at the time. She’d been bruising quite easily and she’d been fatigued a lot. TLDR, after having a full blood panel run we got a call, first from the lab and then from the doctor. Her platelet count was 4 (as in 4,000 per micro liter). Normal range for an adult human should be somewhere between 150 and 450. After a little consideration we were told to get to the ER as quickly as possible. The reason being is that with a count less than about 20 the potential for a stroke is incredibly high (not to mention possible internal bleeding). Long story short, Mrs. S spent two nights in the hospital while they gave her 3 units of platelets and put her on a massive IV dose of steroids, while they did more testing to figure out what we were dealing with. I’m happy to say that the therapy worked wonders and she was released with a count of 27. Still low, but that increase meant that her body wasn’t destroying new platelets. After 2 more days with high steroid doses her count (as of yesterday’s follow up) is up to 280, well above the lower end of the normal range. Whew!

What caused this auto-immune response? We’re still not 100% sure. Acute ITP (Immune Thrombocytopenia) has several potential causes ranging from a simple viral infection (flu, COVID, chikungunya, etc.) to leukemia and lupus. Luckily, blood marrow disorders like leukemia and other cancers were ruled out pretty early. Tests for lupus came back negative. The doctor suspects it was a response to a viral infection (we both had a bad case of the flu right after Christmas).

TLDR, Listen to what your body is telling you and make sure you have your doctor
check you out (even if you feel it’s nothing). Small things can be indicators for life
threatening issues that need to be treated.

The Minolta X-570, it's a slightly de-tuned X-700 (with regard to program AE). Uses all of the fantastic Minolta glass (they got a lot of their formulas from Leitz) like the 700 but also displays the exposure setting in the viewfinder. Fits the hand pretty well and isn't overly heavy /1

Today was “bucket list item fulfillment” day. When I got my first library card I was obsessed with two l books things, science fiction and aviation. My go to book was a large picture book about the National Air&Space Museum. It was an obsession really. Today, 45 years later, I finally got to visit!

I made a radius 1/4 the diameter of the final diameter (so 100mm OD=25mm radius). It probably works with smaller or larger radii but I didn't play with it too much. (Yeah, I know it's not exactly a right angle with the radius in there. I'm a photographer/artist by training and not an engineer)

So I did a thing. In case you're scratching you're head, it's a frog oasis (or frog hotel, frog house, etc.). Side note, do y'all know what a pain it is to do right angled pipe in Fusion? Yeah, that was my day. LOL

A little birdy told me she wanted a whale shark theme for an ongoing project. While I'm not a super talented designer I think I managed to get the head figured out. When printed, the head will be roughly 300mm wide. So, roughly 20%(ish) of full scale. (render from Fusion)

So here we go. The modular, 3D printed 4x5 camera is still a work in progress, but here's a render showing the basic structure now. As shown it's in the 90mm pinhole configuration, but I'll also have 135mm, 150mm, and maybe 210mm cones available.

Purchased another batch of dry plate negs from the trove I found at a local antique shop. They all seem to be taken around the same time, definitely amateur and definitely all the same family. #vintagephotography #glassplate

First test run with the Prentice Tiny Bike(tm). This is about 1/3 throttle. I almost inadvertently did a burn out on my ride, it’s got a lot of torque. Except for the motors, electronics and misc. fasteners it’s entirely 3D printed (even the tires).

I'm an absolute stan for "vintage" photography and was thrilled to find a stack of glass plate negs at a local antique mall. Bought these two, but I'll probably go back for more. Guessing they're from 1910 to 1920(ish) based on the baseball glove the kid is wearing.

Why roll dice when you can spin for initiative instead? Here's my fully 3D printed "D20" spinner in all of it's PLA glory. The spinner section is printed in place, bearings and all. The outer case is in 3 pieces and then screwed together.

Just a render ATM, but I was inspired by the die cast "D20" spinners that one of the vendors was selling at MomoCon and wondered if I could do a 3D printed version. Images of the printed project coming soon.

Not the lens I plan on using (it's far too heavy) but here's the lensed version of my "modular" 4x5. You just swap out the focusing helix for a pinhole plate and you're ready for Pinhole Day!
