They had more than one record? I do have Bridge Of Spies on cassette through. In my defense Carol Decker was on the cover and I was a teenage boy.

Now Dicker have purchased Sektor. Sektor's service has been meh for a few years now - it will be interesting how terrible it ends up being once Dicker take over. www.reseller.co.nz/article/4231...

A few years ago Dicker bought Exeed, and things went from amazing service from the Exeed team to meh service from Dicker. Ingram did well out of it though though, with my old Exeed account manager ending up there (Dicker still haven't told me he left...) and me doing a lot more with them.

Oh and Hipkins really, really annoys me. Then again all the party leaders do. So at least that means no voting on personality for me!

National have moved right. I always used to rate near them, but this year not so much. I'd just like to see Labour explain how they can fund everything with a laggy tax that's basically discretionary.

In 2023, and unfortunately all parties use theoretical or fictional examples to illustrate the effects of their policies. In the same election you had Labour promising $20 saving on fruits and vegetables, and Green saying only the super wealthy would pay that campaigns wealth tax.

I use Great Southern Timber - great team, good clients, branches South Island wide. Probably not much use to you in Auckland though....

Of course. The boys wanted to add some cheese rolls, but I had to break the news to them that they wouldn't travel well, especially with courier delays 😁.

It's been like that for over 20 years.

There's also the issue that if you just pay the IRD some random additional amount that you don't owe, they'll just refund it.

Well that's handy. Copilot has told me how to use dev tools to work out the API Powershop is using to generate the heatmap on its website, so if they can't provide it when I call tomorrow to follow up the email from last weekend, I'll just hit Postman.

(for that last point, turns out we built this place just before everyone switched from spring head nails to screws, bummer....)

Have a new quote back for solar, a lot better than the last one. Just need to chase Powershop for usage data (their tech refresh has been baaaad and taken customer service with it!) and chase my builder client who is going to re-screw the roof.

"Yes dad, we are snuggling. That's what all cats do, so just put down the camera ok?"
Arlo the silver tabby Maine Coon and Slinky the black DSH snuggling on the cat tower. Arlo looks unimpressed at the intrustion of the human on snuggle time. Slinky is sound asleep.

I'm not sure what Unilever was doing in 1993. If there's a story, what is it?

Our son alerted us earlier in the week to getting it from New World, possibly Rolleston because there's none in Leeston. So Foodstuffs South Island seem to be on to it.

Looking forward to groceries tomorrow. Two weeks ago it was a slab of Solo No Sugar, now this!

This is pretty good too.
Arlo the silver tabby Maine Coon cat holding my hand with one of his massive paws. He's 19 months old but still growing.

Friday night, a bit of xbox with a snoozy cat snuggling in to me. The best.
Slinky the little black domestic short haired cat, lying between my legs on a recliner, sound a sleep with his head resting on my calf like it is a wee pillow.

So two weeks ago New World was doing sugar free Solo, now this? Soft drink variety is looking up in NZ :)
A screenshot of the New World app showing a 600ml bottle of Dr Pepper Zero at $4.39. This is showing stock and pricing for the Windsor, Invercargill store so availability and pricing will depend on where you are.

Hey I'm trying, meeting with the Sparky tomorrow to work out how to tweak things in the proposal to get the cost down a bit....

Once again, Imogen on Three avoids saying Pusyger Point. Just "in the Fjords." Can someone please give her some training in how to pronounce NZ place names??

So, shut down the Xbox, put the controller down with the intention of going to bed...someone has a different idea though....
Slinky the black cat snuggled between my legs on a recliner. He looks big but it's just perspective in the shot - he's actually a slender wee lad.

And of course Smells Like Teen Spirit = flatmate insisting I watch a new music video on TV that was the most amazing thing he'd heard and thought would be genre-defining. Come to think of it a lot of music reminds me of student life at Otago!

Tori Amos and Juliana Hatfield Three tracks = listening to 93rox Dunedin while studying. The Bats = called up to do a 10pm-2am at the last minute on Radio One (Dunedin student radio) when I had a business law lecture at 8am.

Absolutely... Cult of Personality = running the simulcast of some TV3 music programme on Access Radio with some of my brothers records and finding it was exactly the right length to cover a commercial break.

"It's was the promoter" - well I'm sure if Ed had contacted the promoter and said, "stand up for what is right or I'm gone" they'd have caved. Way to ruin his brand.

Yup Exeed was an awesome company to deal with. Dicker...not so much. Ingram are just a large faceless multinational, although with ex-Exeed people there they have become pretty decent for some brands. Probably the best service is from Snappernet - I hope they never get taken over!

Andrew Joll @andrew.joll.nz · 12/09/2026
Can't remember Arrow? Ingram bought up Techpac and suddenly became relevant, they also bought Transtech. Dicker bought Express Data then Exeed.
120
Andrew Joll @andrew.joll.nz · 12/09/2026
But yup still around. While the likes of BDT and Cellnet exited the market, and Techpac, ED and Exeed got taken over, Dove is still alive and kicking.

Andrew Joll @andrew.joll.nz · 12/09/2026
Yup. Mostly using them for HP and Canon printers and consumables these days, with SSDs and memory being expensive! Sometimes their cables can be better value than CDL too (although the only time I bought patch leads they were terrible so only from CDL now).

Chased him, have an email with proposal from Corys for a 6.6 kW system but he hasn't worked out pricing yet. Lots of assumptions that don't match out use, but they should work in our favour. Powernet say we can have 10 kW fast tracked, so may see if we have room to beef it up with some west panels.

Dove Electronics' IT recycling boxes take them now if you know a Dove reseller (think small to mid size IT companies), or you could see if a scrap metal merchant would pay for them if you have a lot. Reminds me that I need to book a pickup of two full Dove boxes!

We'd recently converted what used to be the typists room into a staff lounge-type area, moved the boardroom TV into there and had an aerial installed. Not much productivity at FMS Chartered Accountants and Computer Directions Ltd that day.

ICE: ASX Black Ed, PHEV: Eclipse Cross Hybrid, HEV: Rav4 Hybrid, BEV: Atto 3 (which wouldn't have had the range but was the cheapest close to being suitable). It was annoying. Not stopping me looking at solar for home though!

EVs get expensive for business because of FBT - on the vehicle, and if you provide charging infra for staff, on that as well. It's frustrating. I did an analysis for a new vehicle for staff. ICE had the edge until $6.30/l for 91.

Could someone at Stuff/Three please tell Imogen how to pronounce "Puysegur." It's a little obvious she's lacking bit of confidence when she always says "Fiordland" instead!

The difference between Woolworths NZ (owned by Dairy Farm International before sale to Progressive) and Woolworths AU (purchased Progressive in 2005) may be confusing.
000
Andrew Joll @andrew.joll.nz · 07/09/2026
Not sure who Gilligan Shepperd is, but their timeline is off. Big Fresh was always a brand of Woolworths NZ. You had Foodstuffs (brands as now), Progressive (Countdown, Foodtown) and Woolworths NZ (incl Big Fresh). The big mistake was allowing Progressive to buy Woolworths NZ in the early 00s.

I think the budget is a bit light - unless it's /strongly/ skewed to smaller stores. And compulsory acquisition of private businesses troubles me more than a little.
