If you wonder how build tooling for Java can look like compared to what is out there, here's a teaser comparing to Maven, Gradle and Bazel. It all works! jenesis.build/why/tool/

The Java build tool that reads your module-info.java as the build. Fourteen common builds, side by side with Maven, Gradle and Bazel, each one built and run.

Hi, For over 10 years, since Java 9, a jar can declare a module name, either in its module-info.class or through the Automatic-Module-Name manifest attribute. That name is what the JVM runtime, the...

Right. Greater access to [stolen] information, I grant you that. You also get _a_ result. That does not make it correct nor meaningful. Trial and error paid with your time and sanity. You can guess on which side of the isle I stand on regarding this topic 😓

Would you buy JRuby swag to help fund the project? We recently did a run of JRuby "bird" t-shirts that have been very popular, but that stuff is expensive to give away for a little startup like ours.

SDKMAN had .sdkmanrc, yes. But not only that, you can switch anywhere, anytime, without that file. That is, SDKMAN has that feature built-in, for all packages it can manage

Time is the issue here. Volunteers can only do so much with just the few hours they have in a week. While your personal contributions are appreciated, it would also be great if companies/enterprises would do the same, for infra they rely on. Mind that this is not directed at _you_ my friend 🤗

FWIW the work to publish new JDK releases on @sdkman.io is done by volunteers. @marc0der.bsky.social, @eddumelendez.bsky.social, @hansolo.eu most likely. Wish companies relying on this infra to be available asap would chip in opencollective.com/sdkman

Ok, so openjdk25 and openjdk26 install their own files, how is the java interpreter resolved? Is it called just “java”? Or does it follow another naming convention? What about same java version but different vendor, say Java 25 but temurin or Azul?

Right. If you use multiple packages. And then you have to fight conflicts (same capabilities, target files). Whereas SDKMAN side steps that complexity alltogether, for both producers and consumers. Caveat is, SDKMAN is not a general package manager, only works for Java stuff.

Andres Almiray @andresalmiray.com · 18/09/2026
Yes, I know they can install pretty much any software. But managing multiple concurrent versions is a trick only a few can.
150
Andres Almiray @andresalmiray.com · 18/09/2026
Can you install multiple JDKs from different vendors, have them active in separate terminal sessions, with either MacPorts and/or Homebrew? Because SDKMAN can. And yes, I do need that flexibility when working with multiple codebases.

bld 3.0.0 is out! Parallel dependency resolution, BOM support, and an MCP server so AI agents can drive your build. Still one jar, still pure Java.
The bld logo above "pure java build tool", then three features: parallel dependency resolution, BOM-driven version management, MCP tools for AI coding agents. An orange bar reads "version 3.0 available now: rife2.com/bld".

How is it OK that when searching for a job, companies expect candidates to reply asap but they take their sweet time to give any feedback? Just got a rejection letter for a position I applied back in February at the end of August. I guess I should consider myself lucky as others didn’t even reply
