This is the government of Canada’s scientific finding. It is true. It is also a terrible message. Here’s what’s also true: 🧵 www.ctvnews.ca/climate-and-...

Changes to Canada's climate now 'irreversible,' federal report says
The impacts of climate change in Canada are now largely irreversible and average temperatures are expected to rise by at least 3.5 C by the end of the century, a new government report warns.

SaskPower has been directed to keep its coal plants running past their regulated retirement dates, until they can be replaced by nuclear SMRs. This coal-to-SMR plan is more expensive and dirtier than competing scenarios that retire coal by 2030 & build new gas + renewables cdhowe.org/publication/...

New from me: Carney's US strategy continues to wish away the implications of the fact that Trump can't be trusted to keep his word. Trump's latest anti-Canada tariffs raise serious questions about Carney's strategy, and should force a discussion on the actual cost of Canadian autonomy.
blaynehaggart.com
It’s past time to start questioning Mark Carney’s economic strategy
For the better part of a year, Prime Minister Mark Carney has argued that, in the United States Canada Mexico Agreement (USMCA), Canada has “the best deal of any major U.S. trading partner.” Excuse the academic jargon, but this claim has always been bullshit. US President Donald Trump’s decision at the time not to impose tariffs on USMCA-compliant goods (we’ll ignore the illegal fentanyl tariffs loitering in front of the school) had nothing to do with the agreement because he doesn’t respect agreements, laws or treaties.

Want to understand Canadian politics in a few sentences? When gov announces a new social program, the questions will be "how can you pay for this" and the right universally seek to undermine it. When gov announces shovelling public money to private companies, it is applauded as good business.
