Loved reading this piece from Corey. It feels in line with what I've been thinking re: mentorship, apprenticeship, (skill) incubators, etc. How they're less and less common—especially in artistic endeavors—and it's showing.

Incredible. First Secretary Mullin claimed that DHS had identified 15,903 noncitizens on Nevada’s voter roll. Then DHS officials told a skeptical Nevada, no no no, that’s just people we flagged. Here are the names of 185 people we KNOW aren’t citizens. All 185 were citizens. DHS got 100% wrong.
When the Department of Homeland Security sent Nevada a list of 185 names last month that it claimed identified noncitizens who had been improperly allowed to register to vote, state election officials got to work.
On Tuesday, the state sent a strongly worded rebuke to the federal government: Every single person on the list was a lawful citizen.
"As for the 185 individuals, our records indicate that they were citizens," Greg D. Ott, a deputy attorney general in Nevada, wrote, according to a copy of a letter sent to Department of Homeland Security officials obtained through open records requests.
"You have provided nothing of substance to suggest otherwise."Following the meeting, Ms. Vogt sent a clarifying email to Nevada officials. "I also wanted to be sure I clarified that we did not reduce the 15,903 to 185," she wrote. "We've manually reviewed some of the 15,903 and confirmed 185 are not U.S. Citizens."
Now, Nevada officials are saying even that 185 number is wrong. They also took issue with a letter D.H.S. sent them in early September, in which the agency reiterated its initial claims about nearly 16,000 noncitizens on the rolls and pressured state officials to review each case in a letter to Nevada officials in early September.

It’s wild you’re expected to celebrate SCOTUS not allowing the president to dismantle a voting method used by tens of millions at the 11th hour — and also, at the same time, it absolutely is a big deal and couldn’t be taken for granted.

When people talk about how establishment democrats ain't shit, this is why. From an article about Angie Nixon—she filed a resolution in FL calling for a ceasefire, advocating for the right to protest, and against racism, anti-semitism, etc. Failed 104-2. Mind you, there are 33 democrats.
The establishment Ms. Nixon is not. Her primary win so shocked some Democratic leaders that a unity rally, planned on the assumption that her rival would win, was scrapped. Some Jewish Democrats were upset by a resolution she filed in 2023 in Tallahassee calling for a cease-fire “in the State of Israel and occupied Palestine,” which failed with a vote of 104-2. She has since mended some fences and been quick to condemn antisemitic incidents.Urges the Biden administration to immediately call for
and facilitate de-escalation and a cease-fire to promptly end
the current violence in the State of Israel and occupied
Palestine, and to promptly send and facilitate the entry of
humanitarian assistance into Gaza.

Pet-peeve of mine as an editor is when I get footage from a shoot and there are empty audio channels in the clips. Just take the 5 seconds on set and disable those 😭
A video clip in Premiere Pro showing four-channel audio clips. Two audio channels have waveforms and two audio channels do not. An arrow highlights the empty channels.

Tarrant County cut 92 polling places in a county that is 60 percent nonwhite, and the coverage will be a human interest piece about a patient voter in a folding chair. Long lines are not a turnout story. They are a budget decision someone made on purpose.

For decades, reporters have treated hours-long voting lines as a “normal” feature of Election Day instead of investigating why some Americans consistently face greater barriers to the ballot…

i feel like reaction to all this IMAX stuff is getting really out of hand. there are two truths here: 1. Nolan's movies are designed to be exactly as legible in a regular format, so you don't have to sweat missing out *that* much 2. the IMAX format isn't a gimmick, it's the chosen artistic medium

Went to see The Odyssey in regular 70mm today at my indie theater, and there were a couple moments where the projectionist kinda flubbed switching film reels. It reminded me of how tactile and human of a format this whole thing is. And that’s beautiful.

I am seeing The Odyssey this weekend in a beach-town moviehouse with rocky projection and so-so sound. I think it's going to be great. I look forward to watching it under optimal conditions down the road, but good movies work however imperfectly you see them, period, the end.

President Trump said he didn’t know what a red card was before he intervened in a decision that would have caused the U.S. team’s top scorer to be suspended for an elimination game against Belgium on Monday. “When I found out, I said, ‘You got to be kidding,’” he said. Trump said he then called the president of world soccer’s governing body and asked him to review the incident.

I do not understand the "fairness in sports" thing, in part because it isn't a thing, but also "fair to who" is always the question. People who are taller have an advantage in basketball. Does that mean we ban tall people? Why would THAT be fair?
