My blood pressure is probably too high; I keep feeling the pulsations inside my head, as if it were a gear squeaking loudly in a rusty mechanism. ⚙️ Or maybe I really do have a broken clockwork mechanism instead of a brain.

"Surrounding the head is a series of tentacles. The lizard does not have the tentacles, this being a feature of the octopus; and this (...) results in a composite creature which might better be described as a mythical monster." It sounds like #Cthulhu, but it comes from a 1907 archaeological text...
A page from a book featuring a reproduction of an archaeological artifact: an incomplete slab depicting a mythological creature with the body of a lizard and the head of an octopus. From "The Antiquities of Manabi, Ecuador. A Preliminary Report" by Marshall H. Saville, Columbia University, New York, 1907.A page from a book featuring a reproduction of an archaeological artifact: an incomplete slab depicting a mythological creature with the body of a lizard and the head of an octopus. From "The Antiquities of Manabi, Ecuador. A Preliminary Report" by Marshall H. Saville, Columbia University, New York, 1907.Plate XXXIII, which is also illustrated in Fig. 4. Surrounding the head is a series of tentacles. The lizard does not have the tentacles, this being a feature of the octopus; and this, joined with the lizard-like body and the rear extremities (resembling those of the female figures), results in a composite creature which might better be described as a mythical monster. Between the two tentacles which reach out from the lower
part of the face is a bat with outspread wings, on the upper part of which, on each side, may be seen a hook. The head is in profile with a "leaf" nose. On each side of the head of the monster, between tentacles, are two moderate-sized discs. The bas-relief is 31 inches (78.7 cm.) high, 17f inches (44.8 cm.) wide, and 2^ inches (5.7 cm.) thick.
Plate XXXIX represents the other bas-relief of a mythical monster. A greater part of the middle of the sculpture is missing, but in a general way the treatment of this sculpture is much more geometric and angular than that on the preceding plate. The vertebras are represented on the upper part of the back. The treatment of the rear extremities is similar to that in the other sculpture, with the exception of the ribbon-like appendages and the separation of the thighs by a tail extending from the diamondshaped body, and partly curved around the right thigh. The head of the animal is different from the other, but the salient features are brought out in the face. At the lower part of the head are six tentacles; the two nearest the face are grecques ; the two on each corner end in spirals; while the two at the base of the face are represented in the same manner as in the bas-reliefs on Plate XXXYIII. Between them is a large circular disc. On each side of the sculpture are terraced designs. It is 26^ inches (67.3 cm.) high, 17 inches (43.2 cm.) wide, and 1| inches (4.4 cm.) thick.

Five men in muddy work clothes pose on either side of a stele depicting Cthulhu emerging from R'lyeh. The upright stele is propped at the bottom by a short pole and chained to a winch attached to a structure of rough wooden poles that holds it aloft in the center of an excavation, surrounded by piles of turned-over earth, shovels, and other work tools. Behind a hedge, beyond the nearby trees in the background, the walls and roof of a building that could be a church are visible.

"Many of the artifacts brought back by the 1930–31 Pabodie Antarctic Expedition are still awaiting cataloging in the storage facilities at Miskatonic University." Antarctic Find #1, sandstone bas-relief, cm. 30x20(x2). #weird #lovecraftian #atthemountainsofmadness
An irregular slab of grayish stone, carved in bas-relief with the figure of an “Elder One” alien from H.P. Lovecraft’s "At the Mountains of Madness"—a creature with a barrel-shaped body and a large, star-shaped head. The figure is surrounded by inscriptions carved in indecipherable symbols. Uh... I'm sorry, but it's not an alien artifact: I carved it out of a slab of sandstone paving stone twenty-five years ago.
