I reckon if they made the enemies hit harder, so you were wary of fighting them, but your shit didn't break, so you should still stick to a stealth approach, a lot of the frustrations would've been lessened. There's a few bits of the otherwise very good story that don't get resolved too, sadly.

Chapter 5 is very much the unique chapter. It's full of actual combat and actually proves they probably could've leaned into it a lot more and made the stealth more of an option.

It's the same problem I had with Alien Isolation. IMMACULATE vibes, but when literally one of cinema's greatest ever horror creations ends up being a bit annoying rather than actually terrifying, you probably needed to knock a few hours off your run time.

The problem with the stealth is that you've already seen it all quite early on. And it keeps going. And going. And it's the same note. The enemies quickly become things getting in the way of the cool stuff, rather than scary threats.

There's more fucking annoying to come. There's also more amazing visuals and cool, clever puzzles. It's so close to being a masterpiece but the ways it fails are pretty egregious, if not that many.

That bit would've been great if an alive one was a single time jump scare and not a reason for you to tediously, slowly navigate your way up the street without really being able to take in the otherwise incredible, bleak spectacle of it all.

Example of bad and good in quick succession there. Did a lengthy stealth section with an enemy that instakills you that almost immediately stopped being scary and tense and just became a frustrating, slow moving wall between me and meaningful progress.

I'm in the same camp as Lee. I really liked the remake of 2 but fuck me they really over prioritised combat. I'm not a huge fan of the stealth in this bit that feels more like personal preference than design issue.

Also, I get that they're pivoting the series to bring something more of a horror anthology with similar connective tissue, but I do miss the weird, warped, Japanese take on Lynch stuff and Jacob's Ladder.

Silent Hill Townfall gets a hell of a lot right but it's a fairly rubbish game to actually play. Speaks volumes of the strength of the vibe and puzzles that I haven't just sacked it off. Oh I've thrown another bottle to distract the thing away from me, in 2026.
