'Complete, different, impact-making player' JJ Douglas has major upside for CMU pass rush
Douglas came to Mt. Pleasant as a true freshman tight end in 2025 and has become a very promising defender for the Chippewas.

There's a case that a firing squad is more humane which, when you step back, really is an argument against the state killing people, ever, for any reason. It's brutal and cheapens us.

Fun with graphs part 2: www.mittenfootball.com/notebook-bus...

The Broncos, when charting those two factors, don't fare well. The below graph has success rate allowed charted on the X axis, with defensive havoc play rate on the Y axis; top defenses are off to the upper right. WMU is situated in a similar spot to Rutgers, Miami (OH), Ball State, New Mexico State and Middle Tennessee State, among others, in a cluster around the bottom to the left.

Pitt has a dude called Meat Shop
UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH FOOTBALL

Press Conference
Pitt 59, Bucknell O
Q. Tell us about the nickname.
DEMETRICE MCCRAY: My nickname, "Meat Shop," I really got it from when I was in high school, I would say my junior year of high school. I already had the name "Meat." So they used to call me "Meat" and "Meathead," and then my coach, he was just like, this guy is unstoppable, like he's really like a 24-7 meat shop, like he's always open.
So that's where I get "Meat Shop" from.

Every thinkpiece about how to fix college is just a galaxy-brained attempt to avoid the one solution that everyone agrees on, which is to fund college.

The Chippewas got stung by a bad performance in 2025 in losing to the Zips, and head coach Matt Drinkall is hellbent on avoiding an encore loss.

Western Michigan's football program is at it's highest heights in a decade, but got a reality check on how far it still needs to go to achieve the very biggest goals.

Is that not a flag for the obvious mid air shove as Gibbs goes in? Would save us from this street justice the OL wants to hand out. I’m not one for needing to over police violence in football but that’s a “we’re not doing this bullshit today” calls

This Lions defense is legit intolerable for a team with the aspirations Detroit has. It’s not even complementary-level bad where they can’t stop anything but get a takeaway or two to help. Just entirely leaves the offense hanging to win every game, and the OL isn’t good enough for that yet.

Taking stock of various situations: www.mittenfootball.com/yes-no-maybe...
Michigan's overall upside: 3-1 and it feels karmically right, given the WMU debacle and beating an OU team that cannot play recognizably good offense, all while so much is not working for Michigan. The Wolverines are evidently getting better as respective units on the field; the passing game is better, the run game looks solid, the defense keeps making refinements (and needs to figure out end-game situations better) but things like penalties and some odd game management decisions keep hurting this team. It seems like the Wolverines have real upside to win something like 10 games, but it will never get there - or even come close - if the current moments of sloppy, undisciplined play keep happening. Michigan State's bowl upside: Games against Wisconsin, Northwestern and UCLA appear to be far more difficult than they were prior to the start of the season (though some like Washington may be easier than previously thought) and that's before considering a visit from Oregon, a trip to play at Michigan. MSU is better than Rutgers and Illinois appears beatable (though a Bret Bielema team might beat them up). Making a bowl at this point from a 2-2 record probably involves, at a minimum, beating Washington, UCLA, Illinois and Rutgers. And if MSU loses one of those games, they'll need to beat one of Michigan, Oregon, Wisconsin or
Northwestern. No easy path to six wins at this point, but it exists, narrowly.Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan's MAC chances: A week or two ago, this would've felt more grim. It's still an uphill climb past Toledo, Ohio, Miami (OH) and Western Michigan, but both the non-Bronco Michigan MAC teams look like they have a recipe to hang tough and make some noise in the league. EMU can play defense to a far higher level than it could in 2025 and has a veteran quarterback. If the offensive line can come along and the receivers get healthy, the Eagles have real upside. And Central Michigan, finally showing something in the pass game to go with a solid rushing offense and what's been a sturdy defense (when not facing Heisman candidates for Miami) the past few weeks can be one of the tougher outs in the league.
Probably not pegging them for a conference title appearance, but they can firmly be in the race. EMU is already 1-0 in the league with a Week 0 win over Sacramento State.

I can feel in my bones the Lions being 2-1 where both wins are by a combined 3 points against the Saints and Jets at home.

It is pretty cool that the Lions have one of the four or five "just give them the ball and they'll make at least one undefendable play each game" players in Gibbs

Cold clear light of day: Big Ten has to suspend Desman Stephens II because of his behavior after the hit; he might skated on the pure targeting if he didn’t demonstrate no remorse. They’re paid, they can be fined suspended by their leagues.

If it can go wrong for WMU, it is going wrong for WMU right now
Littlejohn drops TD, WMU fails on 4th down
Western Michigan had it dialed up on third and short and Broc Lowry dropped in a perfect pass to Emazon Littlejohn running to the front right pylon. The pass hit his hands in stride running away from defenders, but Littlejohn couldn't bring it in.
He was clearly dejected, and the Waldo Stadium crowd about to burst in excitement did a collective surrender cobra. On the ensuing 4th down, Lowry's attempt over the middle was a bit high and out of reach and Western Michigan turned it over on downs.
Boise State will take over at the 26, up 15-0, with 10:47 left in the third quarter.

That was a bad half of football for WMU; home Broncos get the ball to open the 2nd half and badly need a touchdown. Also think the first takeaway of this game needs to be WMU's to get back into this one. Neither team coughed it up on nine total possessions in the 1st half.
