The thing about the BBC is that it has always been state propaganda. It was explicitly formulated not to enable free speech but to strangle it.
1920–1922: The birth of British broadcasting

Britain's first live public broadcast was made from the factory of Marconi Company in Chelmsford in June 1920. It was sponsored by the Daily Mail's Alfred Harmsworth, 1st Viscount Northcliffe and featured the famous Australian soprano Dame Nellie Melba. The Melba broadcast caught the people's imagination and marked a turning point in the British public's attitude to radio.[14]: 47  However, this public enthusiasm was not shared in official circles where such broadcasts were held to interfere with important military and civil communications. By late 1920, the pressure from these quarters and uneasiness among the staff of the licensing authority, the General Post Office (GPO), was sufficient to lead to a ban on further Chelmsford broadcasts.[14]: 50

But by 1922 the GPO had received nearly 100 broadcast licence requests[15]: 110  and moved to rescind its ban in the wake of a petition by 63 wireless societies with over 3,000 members.[14]: 50–97  Anxious to avoid the same chaotic expansion experienced in the United States, the GPO proposed that it would issue a single broadcasting licence to a company jointly owned by a consortium of leading wireless receiver manufacturers, to be known as the British Broadcasting Company Ltd, which was formed on 18 October 1922.[16] John Reith, a Scottish Calvinist, was appointed its general manager in December 1922 a few weeks after the company made its first official broadcast.[15]: 110  L. Stanton Jefferies was its first director of music.[17] The company was to be financed by a royalty on the sale of BBC wireless receiving sets from approved domestic manufacturers.[18] To this day, the BBC aims to follow the Reithian directive to "inform, educate and entertain".[19]

I am curious how this squares with earlier reporting that job losses were disproportionately hitting women. finance.yahoo.com/economy/arti...
In fact, more than double the number of women have left the labor force than men since the start of the year. A total of 845,000 women have left the workforce since January, while 406,000 men have left.

I had forgotten just how bad the Warren Ellis stuff is. One hundred women. And he's working again.
Sexual coercion allegations

In June 2020, several women (including musician Meredith Yayanos, artist Zoetica Ebb, and photographer Jhayne Holmes) publicly accused Ellis of sexual coercion and manipulation, in having engaged in simultaneous relationships with several of them without the others' knowledge.[126][127][128] The Daily Beast reported that "by 19 June, over 60 women had joined a group organized by Holmes, all of them accusing Ellis of a largely consistent pattern of behavior".[128] The Guardian later reported that "roughly 100 women have come forward, while 33 of them have composed written statements, supported by emails and text messages, which have been seen by The Guardian".[129] These testimonials were posted together on a website, SoManyofUs.com, in July 2020 and contain allegations of "manipulation, gaslighting, coercion, and other forms of emotional abuse" attributed to Ellis.[129][130]

Ellis responded, writing that he had not considered that others would see him as having "a position of power and privilege", and adding: “I have hurt many people that I had no intention of hurting. I am culpable. I take responsibility for my mistakes. I will do better and for that, I apologize."[127][131] DC Comics subsequently announced a two-page story written by Ellis would not be included in an upcoming anthology, at his request.[132][133][130] Ellis ended his long-running email newsletter, which he had published under various titles since 1995.[134]n mid-July 2020, an article in The Guardian reported "Ellis responded to these accounts with self-pity and what seemed to be genuine contrition. [...] Ellis insists that the problem was relationship trouble, 'not predatory behaviour', but concedes that '[t]here is a differing of perception here, and I've been listening to it'. He said he was going to try therapy on the advice of friends".[129] The Hollywood Reporter later reported Ellis would not be returning to Castlevania for subsequent seasons and that a planned Batman comic would no longer be moving forward.[135]

In June 2021, a week after Ben Templesmith announced he would be collaborating with Ellis for new issues of Fell, Image Comics announced they would not be publishing the series following negative reaction from within the industry.[136] An update on SoManyofUs.com informed that Ellis reached out to the site’s managers to say he was willing to engage in conversation or mediation.[137] Ellis reactivated his dormant website to inform subscribers about this development.

In an update in January 2022, SoManyofUs.com reported that their members have been in a mediated dialogue with Ellis since August 2021 and that they were making progress in what was described as “a guided transformative justice process”.[138] In February 2022, Ellis relaunched his newsletter, in which he linked to the SoManyofUs.com update and website.[139] On January 19, 2023, SoManyOfUs.com once again updated the site, alleging that Ellis "took none of the steps we hoped he would", and also stating "we do not anticipate our involvement in any progress he might make in the future."[140]

Announced in August 2026, Image Comics has begun working with Ellis.

Malifaux has its problems but just look at the flavour dripping off these cards. You don't even really need to understand the mechanics to understand that they are telling an awesome story. Summary in the alt text. I love this game so much.
The Parade of the Dead crew card. This includes three actions: Treading on Graves which lets you move a model at the start of its turn because they are in a parade.

Left Out of the Parade which lets you Abandon enemy models if you hit them good.

Walk with Pride which lets you spend a resource to have an ally take the same action as you. Because you are in a parade.

Then explanations of the tokens the crew has access to: Abandoned, which hurts enemies if they have more enemies than allies around them at the end of the turn, and a bunch of standard debuffs.Molly's card herself which includes:

Fall in Step which forces an enemy that hurt her with an attack to walk away and become Distracted because they are swept up in the parade.

Fun Prizes which creates Remains markers when she takes general actions because she's spreading corpses around her parade route as decorations.

Leading Baton which moves your opponent on hit and then moves an ally towards them, because you are guiding the parade.

Parade Route which moves an ally and forces enemies to avoid being trampled and distracted.

Maniacal Laughter, which lets her single someone out and laugh at them to make them feel Abandoned.

What you have to understand about Malifaux is that it includes an undead pride parade and you can play it on the table and that makes it the most My Shit game that has ever existed

I couldn't believe it, I was sure I'd imagined it, and then my partner was like '... did he just ... kiss her vibrator? Why would he...?' 'No, no, I'm sure we're missing something, he wouldn't-- why WOULD he...?' Anyway uuuuuuuhhhhh yeah internet is CONFLICTED on this one folks.
I think that's a serious misreading of the "dildo" scene and I don't remember any confession of abuse by Craven. He kisses the dildo cos it's something personal owned by his recently dead daughter. It's not supposed to be sexual. It's probably the first time Craven, an uptight Yorkshire man realises his daughter was an adult with a sex life and not a child anymore, a beautifully wrought, tender moment. What shocks him even more then is when he finds the gun, another aspect to his daughter he never knew. Gun and dildo having opposite connotations, propelling Craven to "investigate" who is daughter really was. If it were true about the abuse I think his daughter's ghost would have had something to say of it since she is his conscience in the story.

I was curious because I was wondering how on earth that place supports itself economically and - ah.
In May 2015 oil was discovered in Isobel deep by a consortium of oil companies including Falkland Oil & Gas, Premier Oil, and Rockhopper Oil & Gas.[56][57][58] In 2023, Rockhopper (working with Tel Aviv-listed Navitas Petroleum) indicated that it had been presented with a new development plan for its Sea Lion project that aimed to cut costs and proceed in phases. It was stated that: "If realized, the new plan—with a total price tag of $2.2 billion—could lead to 80,000 barrels per day of production (up to 100,000 b/d at peak) via a leased floating production, storage and offloading unit". A final investment decision was targeted for early 2024, though it experienced delays.[59]

A public consultation on the project took place in the summer of 2024 and was reported to have garnered widespread support from Falkland Islanders. Since Britain's newly elected Labour Government banned similar oil projects in the United Kingdom, this created the prospect for a potential conflict between the Falkland Islands' government and the British government. Nevertheless, the authority to approve oil development around the islands was said to rest solely with the Falkland Islands' government.[60] In November 2024, the Falklands' government Executive Council indicated that, while the public consultation process had been successfully concluded, "some matters" related to the Environmental Impact Statement required "further discussion" and that any development and production program would need to be considered separately by the Executive Council

Maybe not quite in the spirit because it is from a game not a novel, but I keep coming back to this lately and I think yeah I got that right.
At its heart, Guildless is a game about class, and it is
impossible to talk about class without also talking
about race, sexuality, and gender.

The following is the default. That’s true for literally
everything in this document, but it feels worth calling
out especially here.

The Empire is a human supremacist society. They are
by far the majority population, and nonhuman
nations which are absorbed by the Empire and
themselves catering to the Empire’s view of their
people. More than that, though, racism still very much
exists within the Empire itself. The central territories
(known as the Home Countries) are considered to be
the ‘truest’ reection of what it is to be part of the
Empire. The further one gets from the centre, the less
cultured they are taken to be.

The more you deviate from this imagined picture of
Imperial civilization, the harder time you will have
accumulating power, prestige and respect – at least by
legitimate means.

Oficially, the Empire is a multicultural melting pot
which is proud of its progressive and tolerant history -
expanding to unite the whole world under its
benevolent rule. In most of the Empire, there are no
laws mandating discrimination. Just as the Empire’s
laws say that theoretically a woman can be Emperor,
and marriage is allowed between any two people. The
Law doesn’t prohibit these things.

It doesn’t need to.
