The thing most people don't want to acknowledge is that if the other side are genuinely willing to start a civil war *you are already in a civil war*.

Me: So yeah I'm just worried this announcement tomorrow will be something big and chaotic right at a time when we're already barely keeping up. Therapist: It doesn't sound likely. I'm sure it'll be fine. My business: Hey everyone we're jamming three businesses together hope you like redundancies!

Decided to treat myself to a new project so I picked up one of these bad boys and I'm going to try and work on it over several weeks to really make it shine.

I fucking hate liberals. I really do. Every single one of them has a minority in mind, at all times, to ascribe membership to as an insult. "What are we a bunch of Asians?" "Trumps brain is broken with psychosis" "Sounds like gender affirming care to me" None of you are funny or smart.

I'm gonna be honest, I am delighted that the 4 hour Musk documentary exists and I hope it makes him finally stop being a coward and do what must be done to redeem himself, but I can't imagine a worse way to spend 4 hours than actually watching it.

The thing about the BBC is that it has always been state propaganda. It was explicitly formulated not to enable free speech but to strangle it.
1920–1922: The birth of British broadcasting

Britain's first live public broadcast was made from the factory of Marconi Company in Chelmsford in June 1920. It was sponsored by the Daily Mail's Alfred Harmsworth, 1st Viscount Northcliffe and featured the famous Australian soprano Dame Nellie Melba. The Melba broadcast caught the people's imagination and marked a turning point in the British public's attitude to radio.[14]: 47  However, this public enthusiasm was not shared in official circles where such broadcasts were held to interfere with important military and civil communications. By late 1920, the pressure from these quarters and uneasiness among the staff of the licensing authority, the General Post Office (GPO), was sufficient to lead to a ban on further Chelmsford broadcasts.[14]: 50

But by 1922 the GPO had received nearly 100 broadcast licence requests[15]: 110  and moved to rescind its ban in the wake of a petition by 63 wireless societies with over 3,000 members.[14]: 50–97  Anxious to avoid the same chaotic expansion experienced in the United States, the GPO proposed that it would issue a single broadcasting licence to a company jointly owned by a consortium of leading wireless receiver manufacturers, to be known as the British Broadcasting Company Ltd, which was formed on 18 October 1922.[16] John Reith, a Scottish Calvinist, was appointed its general manager in December 1922 a few weeks after the company made its first official broadcast.[15]: 110  L. Stanton Jefferies was its first director of music.[17] The company was to be financed by a royalty on the sale of BBC wireless receiving sets from approved domestic manufacturers.[18] To this day, the BBC aims to follow the Reithian directive to "inform, educate and entertain".[19]

The fact that people largely still seem to think that the BBC is in some way neutral or can be trusted as a reliable source of information is testament to how well that propaganda works; it does not mean that it has ever been true.

My own parents have told me they think gender-affirming care should be stripped out of the NHS entirely because "It shouldn't be available for cosmetic procedures." Cis people just cannot grasp that trans healthcare is actually... healthcare.

In the part of England I grew up in there's a general, pervasive feeling that not only is everyone miserable but they are very intent on keeping it that way. Just a kind of tension that most people walk around with and when you notice it you can't unsee it.

In the interests of being fair and balanced, the BBC has to uphold transphobia.

No pretty much that. People have been shot for open carrying near protests in the past, even when open carrying is legal, it seems extremely odd to me that they can just wander around neighbourhoods looking like that and be fine.

I mean that makes sense why they aren't targeted but I'm legitimately startled that there haven't been more *accidental* shootings. Half the time I see these guys they look like every 'before' picture of a subject prior to a mall shooting.

The climate crisis is an interesting example here because we have the solutions. We know what they should be. We are actively stopped from doing so by entrenched interests.

I always think back to the London Riots and how the state decided to enthusiastically make a bunch of egregious examples, and how that's become the model for every protest movement they want to crush since.

That has been bouncing around in my head for a week or so now. It's hard not to feel like we live in that world ourselves; at the very least, the powerful, the ones who should experience the most consequence for abusing their power, are at the least risk of suffering any.

I watched The Lazarus Project with my partner recently. Season one was good. Season two was okay. There is one line in it that goes incredibly hard though: "Right now, we live in a world without consequences. You're going to help me bring them back. Then you're going to face them."

Did it? Did it really? Because 99% of the time I'm seeing indie TTRPG designers talk about D&D it is to note that if they don't make a 5e derivative they'll be lucky not to take a massive bath on their time and investment.
