Don't think so. These words are from a 2014 BBC interview with Putin in which he was asked about Scottish independence and he echoed Cameron's messaging. He had his eyes on the bigger goal of what would become #Brexit with the aim of fragmenting the #EU.

Not just sea trade. We need to export our surplus electric power. All current international connectors land in England, so such exports would have to be routed through the English grid - a choke point. The UK grid's plans are to transfer MORE Scottish power to England rather than benefit Scotland.

Yes, this map shows all UK existing and planned international HVDC connectors. All pass through England and Wales. Even the Norway link lands near Newcastle. Any Scottish generated power for export has to pass through England, a choke point. An independent Scotland would need its own foreign link.
