Measles outbreaks not explained by scapegoating immigrants Careful @factcheck.org report by @kateyandell.bsky.social finds no evidence that unauthorized immigration is driving the U.S. resurgence. Falling vaccination coverage and concentrated pockets of susceptibility are the drivers surl.li/zldkws

Rising Measles Cases Driven by Falling Vaccination, Not Illegal Immigration - FactCheck.org
Rep. Byron Donalds, a Republican from Florida who is running for governor, has blamed “rampant illegal immigration” during the Biden administration for measles outbreaks. But we found no link to illeg...

Averages can make measles risk look safer than it is. In our new @NatureMedicine paper, we found that school-level transmission potential crossed the epidemic threshold in 2022 to 2023. The committee reviewing US measles elimination status met this month. PAHO decides in November. Our new paper in @NatureMedicine shows this wasn’t sudden. It was visible years ago, in data nobody was looking at. 🧵

🚨 New preprint: we solved the “Darién paradox.” Oropouche virus stayed quiet in Panama’s Darién corridor nearly a YEAR after Brazil’s peak. Cryptic spread, or a fresh arrival? We integrated clinical + genomic + climate surveillance to find out 🧵👇

Our new study bit.ly/4srWRKd looks beyond “where could the virus survive?” and asks a more practical question: if Oropouche is introduced into a community, where is it most likely to ignite an outbreak. #orov #arbovirus #brazil

Our new study shows that it is not just county‑level MMR coverage but the spatial clustering of unvaccinated kids that separates a contained outbreak in TX (414 cases) from sustained transmission in SC (>900 cases, with ~5.7x higher local susceptible density) www.medrxiv.org/content/10.6... #measles
