I got along super well with my team at my first job out of college because they were all 40+ year old men (other than my one closest friend who was also a college grad). They would eat lunch with me and shoot the shit regularly. The dynamic was not weird at all either, I just ended up one of them

I’m an only child. Other than my mom, all the adult figures in my life were greatest generation men or boomer men. This means that I, a 34 year old millennial woman, have an uncanny ability to switch into the personality and mannerisms of a boomer man when I feel the situation calls for it.

What is it about this weekend? I have driven past so many crashes and detoured like 3 emergency road closures. Google Maps shows multiple crashes all over the cities rn, which is fucking weird for a Sunday afternoon during an NFL game.

Those are both classics, though Russian lit is pretty stacked in general. If you want a rec the We by Yevgeny Zamyatin is pretty good and it’s not a tome, unlike most Russian lit lol. It’s actually pretty short. It was actually the novel that inspired Orwell for 1984. Not really a happy book tho lol

lol I remember I quit 1Q84 like 85% of the way through. I just couldn’t keep going. Turns out I’m not much of a Murakami fan, that’s the third book of his I ended up dropping before I finished.

Also, final note: It feels really weird to choose an album more recent than the past decade (The Suns of Perdition IV) but it’s one of those albums that kicked my ass into orbit the first time I heard it, and there are very few albums I can say that of and they’re all shown here

One of my favorite Russian (war) novels, and I like Russian lit. Highly recommend. It’s a chonker but the most tedious part about it is predictably the number of characters + Russian names. But if those don’t bother you then it’s actually a faster read than it looks. (This is my second re-read)
