On this day in 1988, Canadian sailor Lawrence Lemieux, who was in second place, abandoned a race during the Summer Olympics to save members of the capsized Singapore team. Lemieux received a special medal for his heroic and selfless act.

I don't use sponges very much but didn't know that there are compostable ones. Kitchen sponges are made of plastic. They can't be recycled, so remain in landfills for centuries and as they deteriorate shed microplastics that harm us and our environment. Please choose compostable sponges instead.
